Suggestion: Separate Interface and Dialogue Language

    Hello,

I would like to address an issue I experienced as someone who speaks English as their secondary language. I struggle following the story and dialogue while using the English language in game so I would like to have it in German (my native language). However, when I do that the User Interface, Skill and Item names change to the German version as well. Now if I want to search up an item or watch a guide on my class I have the problem that all of them are in English so the names won't line up.

Would it be possible to introduce a setting which lets me choose a different Dialogue language than my Interface language?

Thank you for reading and I am looking forward to a response!

    That already exists.
In the game's main menu, go to Configuration -> Other Settings -> Cutscene Audio. This is by default set to "Adjust to Client", just change this to german.

That's not what they're asking for. There are cutscenes that are not voiced. There is dialog outside of cutscenes. OP wants to be able to read dialog in German because that's their native language but see game terms like action names and UI elements in English because most community media for this game is presented in either Japanese or English. If they play with the game in English so that their client uses the same language as guides and databases, their dialog must also be in English, even if their cutscene vocals are set to German. If they play the game in German so that their dialogs are in German, their actions and items have to be in German and it'll be more work trying to match the English names from guides and databases to the German names in their client.

If that is the case, then I misunderstood, my apologies.

On the other hand, the main database for the game (The Lodestone) is readily available in german, as are most guides.
I play the game in german, but know most skill's/dungeon's/etc. english names, as they are similar (or almost identical), e.g. the lancer's skill 'Vorpal Thrust' would be 'Vorpalstoß' in german.

IMO it would probably make sense for the OP to play the game in german, as it seems their focus is to be able to follow the story properly.

That being said, I don't think it's possible on a technical level to have dialogue windows be a seperate language than the rest of the interface, and even if it would, it would most likely not be very high on the developer's priority list, I'm afraid.

Yes, what I do when I want to see what actions are called in other languages is I go to the page in the job guide in my language (english) and then change the subdomain in the URL to the language I want. This also works on the Lodestone for quest and item entries.

However, I can understand OP's desire to play with mixed language settings, as there are also some speakers of other languages for whom the game is only available in second languages for them, and the dialog may be easier for them to follow in French or German but most guides for the game are written in English.

I don't think it would be particularly difficult to split the localization dictionaries into two sections so that the dialog and the interface can be in two different lanugages; however, a thorough job would be time consuming and probably not viewed as a profitable endeavor.
