Seems to me that random, non-party visitors shouldn't be able to change anything in a house, let alone make it disappear.
Now, on the other hand, it might be interesting to have a toggle that allows visitors to move furnishings any way they want.

Just make housing food items pure decoration. If people want the food buff, they can go pick up food. Stick some in the FC chest if you want to share.
They're weak enough food buffs that they could just take the limited usage off of them if they want the interactive part of it in tact.
I'd be totally up to leaving the setting on for people to come in and tinker with my housing interactable stuff if it wasn't for super limited seasonal food decorations
I'm a bit confused now. The information in this thread is contradicting the information in the following thread, which states only tenants of the house may interact with food decorations.

I'm assuming that they're referring to FC members coming into the FC house to eat the items (FC members automatically being tenants as long as their rank permissions don't restrict house entry).I'm a bit confused now. Ok, so then this is about FC members being able to use the food decorations in homes belonging to their FC, and not about random people ransacking any old unlocked home? I was about to have my first ever panic attack.
Yes.. you must have permission to eat food in someones house in this game. Those permissions can be linked to FC membership for FC houses or tenant status for private houses.
But.. accidents still happen. So it'd be nice to be able to set food items as decorations so someone you trust doesn't walk in and "lol I'm eating this" and then you're out a 5 dollar decoration because it's seasonal (which is kinda dumb in the first place).
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
The only tiny problem with the food turning into decoration is that people sometimes use the empty plates to create some of their decorating ideas. I'd personally like to see all the furnishing items from events become obtainable whenever you want from the Calamity Salvager.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
As much as I'd love to see this, SE won't put event food furnishings on the salvager because they'd lose out on those cashshop sales. I still think the easiest option would just be to add a food toggle to the FC/Housing permissions. This way, if you want the "clean" plate look you can just turn off the seting until the food is used up. Either way, I feel like something seriously needs to be done about this. It really ruins the fun of decorating. The only tiny problem with the food turning into decoration is that people sometimes use the empty plates to create some of their decorating ideas. For me, alternatively, allow us to pay some kind of gil fee to "Restock" consumed uses of food.
