Is Thancred (Spoilers)

Hello, I beat the MSQ in FF I am lvl 50 in MSQ now.

So Thancred, is he evil? Corrupted? What happened to him?

So if he's the guy in the Mask whos been stalking me this whole game, wasn't he present to see the masked guy first show up? It's like the ultimate 'well it can't be me'. because he was literally there.

But it was him?

Also, is there no side effects of him being corrupted? I saw him in the trailer for the new expansion, so naturally he's still around.

But idk, you can't just be evil and then not be evil. Feels like a cheesy move.

Also where is Alphinauds sister? She was in the beginning of the game, now she's gone and I didn't see her for like 30 levels plus. It's all Alphinaud, what gives?

He's a good person. One of the masked guys took over his body. There are multiple masked guys. The masked guy who took over his body is different from the one stalking you in the beginning of the game. The body taking happened some time after the Ifrit storyline.

He wasn't evil or possessed at the start. He got possessed somewhere around the level 20-30 quests – there's a bit of a continuity error there because he's shown wearing the "necklace of possession" around level 20 (from memory) before we visit the sylphs and before he gets assigned to investigate the Ascians, but later dialogue implies it happens during that investigation.

Either way, they got him somewhere around that point and he wasn't in control of himself since then.

I'm not sure if you've reached the credits or not but as you say, he's obviously still around much later in the story. So yes, he gets de-possessed and things are okay after that because it wasn't really "him" betraying the others.

The initial reveal of "Lahabrea being Thancred" doesn't explain it really well and the characters' immediate reactions are more in line with an actual betrayal rather than learning their friend has been captured and possessed. It gets covered more in dialogue afterwards, though.

About Alphinaud's sister... the siblings disagreed on how to improve Eorzea situation. Alphinaud's approach was to be open and work with organizations. His sister did not like the idea that, in the end, countries will bend the story for their political gains and refused to work together.

ARR in many points may seem disconnected, but it will get better later on after a certain point.

Not meaning to sound condescending by any means, but basically your questions will be answered as you continue the story. The scions are your main cast of supporting characters- they will come and go as you progress, and many are involved in side content.

Thancred is not evil, he was body was possessed by a major villain to the series.

The sister is investigating the Binding Coil of Bahamut.

Once you're past the credits you'll have a lot of new sidequests popping up that unlock new dungeons and trials. The Scions in particular (starting with Minfilia) will give you harder versions of the primals you've done before. You need to do the "hard" versions of Ifrit, Titan and Garuda before you can progress MSQ eventually, and after that you unlock the optional "extreme" versions – don't use the duty finder for those, they're designed for an organised party and some practice or you can take the easy route through by turning your settings to Undersized Party (ie. not level synched) and beating it quickly.

Anyway, that seems like a tangent but at some point in the process (I think at the same time as the first extreme trial is available) Urianger will have a quest for you that turns out to be working with Alisaie to investigate an apparent new primal. This is the "Binding Coil" quest line and it's highly recommended for story purposes, though again they are difficult fights and commonly done unsynched. You'll want a couple of high-level players to carry you through it. Also expect some long cutscenes inside the duty instances.
