Constant "Fatal DirectX Error 11000002" crash

I am getting sick of these constant crashes! This Fatal DirectX Error 11000002 crash is really making me want to quit this game! I used to see it every couple days or so and could get 90 minutes to 2 hours of play time in a session with no issues. Yesterday (09 Oct. 2021) and today (10 Oct. 2021) though it's happening all day. I have been getting 15-20 minutes at most if I am lucky.

I don't know what has happened with this game all of a sudden but NOTHING on my computer changed in this time frame from a few days ago to this weekend, so something is up on YOUR end! I decided to do a clean uninstall of my GPU drivers with DDU in safe mode and reinstalled the latest drivers and still no better after that.

    I am running:
    Windows 10 Pro
    Ryzen 7 5800X
    RTX3070
    32GB Ram

My game is installed on the C:\ drive and my monitor is a 3440x1440 Ultrawide 144Hz display. I also have a 1 Gbps download/30 Mbps upload internet service. I am generally in Rhalgr's Reach (or those areas just questing) and/or I was in the Golden Saucer to for a couple of the crashes. I am not in anything like dungeons or raids or anything that should be intensive but either way, my computer is MORE than capable of running this game!

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling FFXIV and still no luck. I have tried both Fullscreen and Borderless still with no change and various Nvidia Panel settings and graphics settings in-game and can't resolve this issue. Tried to disable fullscreen optimization and no change there either. I'm sick of wasting my little bit of free time I do have on this crap that should NOT be happening!

FIX THIS PROBLEM otherwise issue me a refund for my unused playtime and I will go back to ESO! This is just unacceptable!

Hi, there usually four common causes for this problem:

    1. Overclocking.
    2. Generally unstable hardware because of overheating or faulty memory, CPU, mainboard etc.
    3. Apps which uses overlays like Steam, Discord, OBS, graphics driver panels etc.
    4. In multimonitor setups a browser window on the other monitor.

I have this error in a multimonitor setup when i watch YT videos on the other monitor.

My tipps are: do not overclock. And if you do not overclock then try to underclock you CPU and memory. Maybe it fixes the problem.

Then disable overlays in such apps like Discord.

    I hope it helps

    Cheers

As much as you want to believe it's a problem on SE's end, if that were the case, yours wouldn't be the sole complaint in the Tech Support forums about this error. Even if you believe nothing changed on your machine, the following could happen without your knowledge:

    - A driver or an entire program could auto-update; or
    - Big, beefy, uber-hardware could fail

It's best to take the previous poster's advice and try to troubleshoot either your hardware or your connection before jumping on SE to 'fix it now'.

I get the frustration, but unless you are post #231 in a thread where every player is complaining about the same DirectX error, it's likely not an error on SE's side.

Aside from the advice clock speeds and overlays that Larirawiel offered, I offer some rather basic troubleshooting advice that anyone should do when faced with a computer issue. These are things you definitely want to do before you get into more involved hardware and connection fixes (similar to how if your car wouldn't start, you'd check the battery and fuel level before going ahead and replacing the starter and/or engine.)

    - Cycle (turn off/on) your computer, your router, your modem, and any other hardware you might have involved in your internet setup (signal boosters, etc.)
    - Reinstall DirectX in case there is an issue there (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=35)
    - Though your framerate is gonna be garbage, try onboard graphics instead of your 3070 for a bit. No error? Focus on video card / power supply / drivers.

    Good luck!

I appreciate the replies but I've spent way too much time troubleshooting and have already tried everything both have suggested, and some of those are my defaults like no overlays, and I don't OC. Of all my testing this weekend, it seems to only happen in Stormblood zones meaning it is a Square Enix issue and not my computer. My computer was built by me and only 3 months ago and has no integrated/onboard GPU, and I don't use a multi-monitor setup (I stated I have a single 3440x1440 ultrawide) and power cycling everything was already done at the start of my troubleshooting.

Now, before you say anything else about that to try and blame me, I work in IT (Network Engineer) and I am certified A+ tech (basic I know but still means I know my hardware and how to handle and build PC's), MS365 Certified MDAA and about to start studying for NSE 4. I may have only started this as a career recently but I've been doing all this on my own for well over 20 years doing my own PC building (including opening laptops about 15 years ago onward to upgrade, re-paste, etc.), troubleshooting and networking. That said, I spent a lot of time troubleshooting before posting and every single time, it happens only when I am in Stormblood zones with the exception of once or twice at the Golden Saucer but then I realized it crashed as I was teleporting there from Rhalgr's Reach so can't say for sure if it was due to Stormblood or not but since all of the other testing in and out of Stormblood has only resulted in crashing in Stormblood content. I was in-game in Limsa Lominsa for over an hour then again in Ul'dah for about an hour all without issue. Tried again in Castrum Oriens and crashed around 17-20 minutes in.

Now, your first line Breakbeat you say "As much as you want to believe it's a problem on SE's end, if that were the case, yours wouldn't be the sole complaint in the Tech Support forums about this error.", I think you need to look around because mine is NOT the sole complaint and I have come across this complaint in these tech support forums and if you google just the error alone without mentioning FFXIV, it still all comes up with results related to FFXIV. I've seen posts from just back in September 2021 about this error in these forums so just because it's the only one in your view of the forums without searching does NOT mean mine is the sole complaint so please stop making such comments. Just what is on page 1 is NOT an indicator that mine is the only complaint. Go to page 2 and there is another one from Sept.24 2021 and doing a search I find another from Oct.3, 2021, Sept.3, 2021 and I can go on and on if you really want me to. Just searching "fatal DirectX error" brings up a total of 119 results and a lot are from 2021 and it seems it worsened with 5.5, but posts I have read from prior to 5.5 seems it was frequent in Stormblood.

Sure it happens to different players anywhere in the game but the majority of what I find seems to be Stormblood and then ever since 5.5. I can't confirm personally that it's from 5.5 because up until literally a week ago (and in which I didn't get to playing much in Stormblood until Friday which correlates to the time frame of when these issues happened) I wasn't in Stormblood content until Friday (was doing my ninja quests catching up once I was back after a small break) but didn't get much play time until Saturday in Stormblood. The only thing I can personally can confirm is that it is a constant, and a guarantee, that it happens to me when in Stormblood content.

Then i guess there is a faulty hardware component in your computer. It can be the memory or CPU or the motherboard. My first rig had that problem too with the direct x error. Then i've found out that the CPU had propably a defect in the CPU cache. I RMA'd my computer, got a new one and the problem is fixed and occurs only randomly when i watch videos on my second monitor.

FF14 is very unusual when it comes to hardware utilization. When i disable the DOCP/XMP profile then the performance impact is relatively huge and i get a 10% performance hit. This is not very common that an application depends so strong on memory bandwith. I guess that triggers some errors in the hardware. The FF14 benchmarks are IMHO also very good stability test utilities.

    Cheers

Good morning Blood-Wolfe! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We apologize for the delay in response to this issue. We suggest to perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the 'Start up' Tab. Then, Disable everything. Additionally, can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display'. Lastly, does this issue only occur on one specific character?

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
