oh yeah im all for another gunner job
like we have how so many sword/blade jobs
so something that dual weild guns or maybe even a rifle like class be fine
But shouldn’t it at least try to integrate its Gunner aesthetic and its machinery? I mean reassemble reassembles it’s gun then promptly doesn’t use it
The gauss mechanic was a failure but the idea of combining machinery with its weaponry was good, like how We don’t beg for a minstrel job since BRD is just a ranger, or how we cling to a thief job despite ninja existing idk despite MCH looking like mush I hope they do one day integrate the gunner aesthetic back. Machinery alone just isn’t that compelling enough and people treat it the same way they’ll treat SMN in EW
I'm well aware that this will never happen in this game, but I wish they'd split Bard and Archer.
Agreed. It needs to be a caster.Casters and physical ranged have always been separate in my mind.
Casters have now gone the longest without a new job.
Post 2.0 we got:
Melee - NIN, SAM, And now reaper
Physical ranged - Machist, Dancer
Healer - Astro, and now sage
Tank - dark knight, and gunbreaker
Caster - red mage
Blue mage doesn’t count as you can’t use it for any modern content.
Class Idea: Bard
A fighter that uses rousing songs to buff their party and debuff and damage their enemies in combat.
what your asking is pretty much what i would want yoshi p to do to separate bard and machinist, bard should be musical and machinist should use the machines, Archer and Gunner goes separate still though i really wish a 4th class could use Guns for real like Laguna.
Food for thought, BRD/MCH/GNR/ARC cannot exist solely on their own. It’s a miracle DNC can with how few skills it has without it being named like Rune Dancer or Be combined with another job like MNK. They are simply far too shallow which is the issue with MCH currently as it has no gunner motif anymore. When it did the devs had zero faith about the ammunition and barrel mechs.
I for one would love to hear anyone suggesting mechanics and 18-23 skills and a coherent skill spread on a basic concept as gunner without going mad. The very very few I’ve read just seems like copy pasts of other jobs. And that’s what numbs me to these dum requests. None of the suggestion are worth a job slot. Rather than demand a job with a more gunner appeal maybe ask why the hell does MCH not have any?
Bard has been a standalone job in many games, all you need to do is -check this out- add musical abilities that deal damage:
FFV - Requiem, a song that deals massive damage to undead enemies
FF Dimensions - Dire Dirge, a song that deals damage depending how low HP you have
FFXI (and XIV) - Foe Requiem, in its original FFXI version where its a dot
FFXI's line of Threnody songs, could easily be reworked as dots/damaging abilities
FFXI has other lines of songs that are way too lengthy to list here, all they need to do is pick a few names and turn them into damaging abilities. Radiant Finale is a step in the right direction, but I would prefer to see Bard have its archery aspect shifted to another job.

Sorry, I thought I'd responded to this, but I must have hit my post limit back then and failed to save it to post another day.But shouldn’t it at least try to integrate its Gunner aesthetic and its machinery? I mean reassemble reassembles it’s gun then promptly doesn’t use it

Personally, I think the base class -> job extension take to Gunner and Machinist would be perfect for both. With that, the gun would still be integral to MCH, too, but while level 30+ would start to go deeper into gun usage for GUN, MCH would be instead adding new devices to it -- with, say, Reassemble being a mode shift for any of many devices, but certainly starting first with the gun.
And honestly, when we first heard of the Gauss Barrel, back before HW release, I was actually hoping it'd either...Basically, so long as it'd be more than empty "hit-on-CD" or "unload-during-raid-debuffs" APM, I'd have been happy, but I suspect it could have gone much further.
- be a pseudo-turret, a sort of accelerator ring through which to shoot, via which you'd have your Rook for Tracer Fire that'd have particular synergies, along with more of a physical / focus target niche overall, the Bishop would be there for Wildfire (coating enemies in volatile aether) and for raw AoE, and the Gauss Barrel would be for player-driven single-target burst, cycled in when your CDs are ready or resources neatly align
- or something which would slow your shots but generate resource towards some added manual burst/multiplier function that'd help to make up for MCH's lack of burst relative to GUN's techniques.
