I think they mean gameplay wise. Yes you want at least 1 ranged and 1 caster.
But on the execution, there is no difference mechanically wise. There is no "Physical ranged mechanic", only "ranged mechanics"

The line is drawn by the mobility tools, how you execute the ranged mechanic.
And in ShB, there was no ranged mechanic that specifically required a P.Ranged to deal with it, or that it was the most optimal way.

What the devs formally endorse and how the game substantially plays are two different things. But even if we consider party composition, it makes the most sense to have 2 ranged and 2 melee dps. The number of available jobs (and the way they're balanced) should reflect that. And right now, we have 6 ranged dps and 4 (soon to be 5) melee dps.

My personal pick for a new Phys Ranged would be Gambler wielding twin pistols. You could roll dice for random buffs that slightly change up how you use your attacks, plus a Luck Gauge you build up over time that you can use to manipulate probability to get better outcomes.

I still would like a artillerist since what i read is mostly true that machinist is more machine than guns, again Laguna in dissidia have a lot of weapons he can swap, why can't yoshi p like do that in anew range? what i want is a new scifi class that has that more modern gun settings

Since MCH is complete deluded by gcd bs and hardly uses its gun anymore, I’m actually down for a gunner job that actually feels like a gunner job even at the risk of wasting a slot as the devs simply don’t care to add any gun aesthetic to MCH anymore and the fan base is to dim witted to call MCH anything but perfect and polished

I mean, we see the suggestion to have mostly viable endgame class (or alt-job) variants... what... at least thrice per month? When Bard seems increasingly converted to an Arcane Archer and there's no way to actually experience a more core Gunner experience otherwise, etc., you can see why.
