They talked about issue with the balcony door in the 2019 EU FanFest Q&A. They said it can't happen because of the way house instances are designed.

They can't allow players move the workshop/private chamber door or allow you to add multiple copies of it throughout the house because it's the entry point to those other instances.

You might not mind giving up your basement but other house owners likely would.

No need to when there's more than housing to the game. Housing in some other MMOs let players freely do some of what he suggests. There's nothing extraordinary about it. Sadly, FFXIV didn't incorporate those features into housing design here and the lack is hindering what we can accomplish.

In that case they can add exterior garden items like a stair that you can put on the side of the house and reaches up to the roof, and a smaller one for the balconies. The HoH building isn't high enough for most buildings and is too big & annoying to climb.
The private door thingie was just a suggestion and isn't really required.
