You have to actually (c)heck the bed first (select it, and then use action/enter on it). You will get a menu. Then select 'Sleep' I think.

If you do a /shutdown it won't work (which is my normal way of quitting).
Would be convenient if they added a /sleep that worked in that room, but I'm not that fussy.

problem is when i get to my bed my only option is /sit

or do i have to manually type in /check etc etc

There is 'sit' from the micro menu. This is not what I refer to.
You have to actually CLICK on the Bed itself (like you would on the armoire), when the BED is selected, double click on it (or hit enter) and then you will get a menu.

This is not part of the micro-menu or the 'menu menu'.

you target it and check it like you would any NPC. It's not the depreciated interactions menu.
Select exit the game or return to character screen from the menu that comes up, and you will hop in the bed then log out.

Anyway, I'm rather concerned about the lax security at the inns, what with people coming into my room while I'm asleep and leaving cookies on the bed while I'm sleeping on it.

In fact you should be checking your inventory for MISSING subligar. Reinheart may have attempted to take yours and leave these 'presents' as calling cards.
