This is a level 29 quest. When you have out leveled it, how do you weaken something to use an item on it? I insta-kill the quest objective.

I wouldn't worry about doing this sidequest but it leads to a minion reward eventually.

The only thing I can think of doing is leveling another job up to the quest level but I hoped there was some trick I could use to just get through the quest.

Is that one of those quests where you need to capture an enemy after getting it's HP down to critical? I've done countless levequests like that, as those are really tricky when you're at a high level, but they are still possible, you just can't go in with all guns blazing as the enemy is quickly killed as you noted.

The way I do it is by calling out my chocobo and letting them attack while not attacking myself, then when the enemy is almost dead, immediately commanding the chocobo to cease attacking, and then using the item to capture the enemy.

It's tricky, but definetely doable (you might have to fail it a few times to get the hang of the strategy).

I'll try doing those but I think I just do too much damage. I can't continue the postman quests until I get this one done.

If nothing else works and you've levelled all your classes already, blue mage's power level is particularly tied to their equipment.

With Blue Mage you don't even need to deal any damage, you could just use Tail Screw to drop them to 1HP or spam Missile and keep halving their HP.

Aside from that, see if your Chocobo can smack them once without killing them. Or equip a very low iLevel weapon.

Lastly, try a Poison Potion and trap them once it eats away enough HP.

Yeah, my advice would be to re-buy the starter level 1 weapon for your class. With that, your DoT should be weak enough that it gives you time to do the interacting the quest wants. Or failing that, autoattack. If a Fate spawns close enough, you could try level-syncing for the Fate and doing the fight then. There are a few ways to handle this type of problem.

Side note: If you havent already unlocked and leveled them all, the 3 HW jobs all start at level 30. So a brand new DRK AST or MCH would start you right at the point to do this quest if you unlocked.

You've got WHM listed as your primary job on your profile so auto-attack as WHM instead of casting. You won't be one-shotting anything over level 5. WHM weapon damage is almost non-existent.

For levequests like that I just do them on a crafting class with an auto attack lol
For anything you can't swap to a non-battle class for, just take off some gear.
