You do realise the entire base of the lore is based off the same concept. They used the failed 1.0 as the lore for a realm reborn.
Some including myself would even say this is a strength that the dev team has.
Uhhh you know it's really both, right? Like there's a lore-explanation and a gameplay-explanation for content. Like, PvP: it USED to be forcefully divided by Grand Companies, because that's how they developed the PvP maps in a 8v8v8 or 24v24v24. But after complaints that, you're forced into your Grand Company, they introduced the Freelancer system. It's both a gameplay feature with a lore explanation. Aetherpool weapons are a gameplay feature with a lore explanation. Transforming your Aetherpool weapon into a Kinna one is a gameplay feature with a lore explanation. And so on for A LOT of systems in the game.
So teleport IS a gil sink, with a lore explanation. And we already knew the Sharlayans were responsible for the Aetherytes since... uh... someone's gonna have to say since WHEN we know that, I only remember it as general knowledge. So saying we'll meet them in 6.0 is really just... obvious? Since we're going to Old Sharlayan already?
Some players want lore explanations because they enjoy immersion within the game world's story.
Some want game play explanations because they could care less about story.
Both get provided. I'm not certain why you see a problem with that.
