ok all bosses have some type tank-buster or cleave. unless there is a mechanic requires everyone be in front of the boss. its wise stay out cleave range. normally the flank or directly behind is a good place for dps to be. range dps distant not to distant that cant dodge mechs fast enough. normally boss normally facing the tank always face first. melee dps have a safe spots both sides flank and/or back side if in cases where like some raid and savage fights they dont even have a back. just one large towering large body towering over battle feild. normally tank tanks dead center while dps either in left or right positioning less chance of them tanking damage specially if they can avoid taking hits. they should take it. .. really all it is careful positioning yourself on the battle field. being 3-4 seconds ahead before mechanic even happens cause then you know whats coming

I personal as a tank rather my dps didn't tank any damage at all. but sometimes cant be helped. some damage is unavoidable dodging should always be a thing if you can do it. when comes tanking/healing/dps first vital thing anyone should learn is ability to dodge
