If hanging out being part of video game history is something that truly does not appeal to someone, then I guess I could see it not actually trolling. Otherwise I genuinely feel sorry for someone who wants to be there day one and can't be. Just power through MSQ and one job if they are in Stormblood that should still be doable at this point.
What do you suggest then? There isn't really anything you can do other than skipping content or buying a story skip for €25 or whatever. It is what it is.
I don't think there is a fomo, you're putting your own bias cause you want to be there with everyone else in 3+ different instances, server congestion and whatnot.

It's not really that big of a deal I think, hence playing it at your own pace. Understand the story (if you care about that, if you don't then I don't even see the issue to begin with) and continue playing following along the MSQ.

It depends on the person, the hours they are willing to put into it, and their playstyle/pace.

A friend of mine joined the game not so long ago. He managed to finish all MSQ in 2 months (ARR to SHB 5.55).

OP has ARR, HW, and if I understand correctly, some of Stromblood done by now. This should leave the rest Stromblood and Shadowbringers for him to complete. We still have 48 days till Endwalker. OP can make it if they focus on doing MSQ.

If OP plays 3 hours each day, They should finish all MSQ up to the very last patch 5.55 before Endwalker release. Then again, I don't know OP playstyle/pace. Some players can finish a lot in 3 hours, while some might need more time to finish the same amount of content.

Just focus on the main scenario and Coils, Alexander and Omega like Yoshi-P recommended. Other content isn't going anywhere.

I have a lot of Stormblood unlockables like Omega undone and have hardly begun Shadowbringers MSQ. Plus I skipped a lot of Realm Reborn stuff as well.

Anyone else know this feeling? It'll probably be months before I do Endwalker. I guess I can still swap to Viera.
This is only an issue if you decide to let it be. I'm assuming you're playing FFXIV because you enjoy it, so another way to look at this is that you have a ton of FFXIV content ahead of you to enjoy. While others are waiting on the next patch, you'll still be in the middle of having grand adventures.

I understand the day-one excitement, but you know what isn't exciting? Not being able to see the NPCs you want to talk with because a crowd of 50+ player characters are standing on top of them. :P

Just play at your own pace. The worst that you will miss the hype train during EW launch that people will have the taste of blinded dungeon/raid runs, and you would prefer to not venture in spoil-prone places like youtube to avoid spoiling yourself.

I start to play this game around 5.2. When people were fussing about 5.3 and 5.4, I grinded collectibles for blue craft tokens to exchange for those lv60 gathering gear in Idyllshire and craft myself a carbonweave crafter gear, while grinding other classes up to lv60, get myself an anima weapon, finishing all beast tribes, get BLU class to lv60 and learn all possible spells, all during free-trials and without marketplaces. And my MSQ progress is always a slog cuz I only do it when I finish my mini-projects here and there.

It doesn’t bother me massively, it’s just kind of ironic. There’s just so much content (at least it seems that way from where I am). I wonder what new people think of it. Like I wonder if people are overwhelmed, if the majority of new players are boosting, etc. A lot of new players are coming in, they will have to do all that 2.0 patch stuff too. In WoW they rush you towards the newer areas and nerf earlier content. In FFXIV they encourage you to play through everything. The end result is good I think, but boy his game feels BIG now.

The game feels better to play through if you treat it like a long-term journey where every expansion matters instead of just the latest expansion. When you consider previous expansions "old" and just want to get to the "shiny new" one, the game's way of story presentation will become a chore-fest that test your patience.

YoshiP explained it the best, like this: think of FFXIV as an ongoing TV series. ARR is season 1, HW is season 2, SB season 3, ShB season 4 and Endwalker season 5. When shows are being made they are (generally) being made that you start at season 1 episode 1 and watch until you're caught up. You can skip to season 4, of course, but you'll be missing what happened in previous seasons.

If you like both that's pretty tough shit.

    Good luck either way.
Tbh in and of itself isnt an issue its more of fear of spoils and fights being ruined for u by the time u get to them due to how ppl are

I think it really comes down to whether you like the gameplay or not. I joined FFXIV back when everyone seemed to be running Coils, but before WoD released. While others were getting frustrated with Coils progress, happiness was the only emotion I felt whenever I thought about the amount of content ahead of me. That's because I was thoroughly enjoying what I was playing through, and so having a plethora of it left to consume was bliss.

The great thing about FFXIV is that all the enjoyable content isn't hidden away at the end, not unless you're only interested in a very specific part of the game. Being in expansion A is just as good as being in expansion B or C. Unless they just don't care about the MSQ, anyone who is skipping through most of the content just to play an upcoming expansion has really done themselves a disservice. It's like throwing out 80% of a fresh pizza so you could focus on enjoying the remaining slices - it was all the same pizza.. why would you do that?
