It's not a gray area. It's basically like a black friday doorbuster sale item at a store. If you get there soon enough you get to buy it. If not you miss out. nothing else to it.Yea, no. It is a grey area. I think the point here you're not understanding is if it's truly a "First come first serve" you would not get credit or rewards at all. You still get credit for the kill towards achievements even if you didn't pull first, etc.
Again, grey area. You say the intended design was for those who ever found the hunt gets first dibs, etc. If that was the intended design than again no other parties would get credit or the same rewards as the party who pulled it.
If it truly was "First come first serve" - Only the pulling party would get credit and rewards.
Stuff like this makes me wish I cared enough to deliberately go out of my way and make people mad about content I don't even partake in.
I knew a few people who got excommunicated by the community or simply permanently banned for harassing people who "early pulled"

The most valuable reward from an S rank is credit for the kill (which you only need to get 1 hit in to earn) but if you're after seals/nuts:My only irritation is when I don't get decent enough credit for it because I didn't join a party because there was no room and credit seems to be based on how much damage /threat your group does. I was at an S rank and got like a piddling of rewards for it because there wasn't room in one of the groups.
There should be something in place that gives full rewards if you are fully engaged in the fight, not a tag and run thing, nor should you have to pray there's a spot in party. I haven't bothered with hunts since.
If you have a tank, swap, turn on tankstance and spam your skills. Any lv 80 tank can obtain full credit with current S/SS's, I usually just tomahawk and hop around.
If you don't have a tank and there are no parties in PF/shout chat, make your own PF listing. PF doesn't bite, theres no need to pray for an opening and miss out on rewards :c
I frequently went up to Ru'Aun Gardens in FFXI and killed every NM and HNM up there solo with the exception of Byakko (Did Genbu, Seiryu, and Suzaku once just to see if it could be done. Tried it with Byakko but never succeeded at that time) and Kirin back in the days of Zilart, Promathia, and Aht Urgran. The only people that ever had an issue with it were people from NA linkshells that seemed to think posting on a fansite I didn't use or visit gave them ownership of spawns without them being there. A number of these people made stupid threats that literally went no were saying they were going to get me blacklisted by the whole server blah blah blah... Those linkshells never stuck around long. I figure they either imploded, got themselves blacklisted by nearly the entire server, or they jumped ship to WoW because it required less effort to get endgame gear on that game. (Or they got lured in by 1 of the 40 some odd different celebrity commercial endorsements they flooded TV with)
The hunt community probably breeds more drama then any other part of the game as a whole, largely in part due to the fact that the vast majority of players consider things like waiting on S ranks and not killing A ranks outside of trains the norm despite it not being the "intended" design of hunts.
I personally feel like there's no logical reason not to share hunts because I actually have the patience to wait a couple minutes so other people can benefit from it, but I'm well past the point of getting flustered at people who don't think the same, nor do I have pity for the slowpokes who consistently show up late to hunts and miss out.
There are childish people on both sides of the hunting fence, though, and I've seen more then a few go on a self-righteous crusade to try solo as many S ranks as possible simply out of spite towards the greater hunting community, but they always end up burning out sooner or later simply because there are far more willing cooperate against them then with them.
At this point I feel like SE would be better off doing whatever they can to mitigate said drama even if it goes against their originally intended design of the hunts.
As previously stated, I think just putting a hard limit on how much damage you can cause on a per hit basis (Via some kind of buff) to older S ranks would probably solve most complaints with them dying too quickly while at the same time allowing players in the appropriate level range to still contribute. It would also encourage forming groups to kill them because while you could feasibly solo something if you're capped at around ARR levels of DPS but retaining ShB HP/defense levels, it would not be even remotely practical and I don't see an issue with content that was designed for groups originally remaining group-focused when the rewards are still proportionate to such and always relevant.

They really need to use an expansion to reinvent the hunt system. Just create a whole new one if it's easier than modifying the current one. Either way players don't use the system as it was intended by SE, and they really need to adapt to that. Hunts are neat and I would hate to see them vanish, but with zone caps, model limits and the weird cliques that form around them it's more trouble than it's worth at times.
PF does bite. I don't use it, nor do I know how to use it.The most valuable reward from an S rank is credit for the kill (which you only need to get 1 hit in to earn) but if you're after seals/nuts:

And I was expecting more than 10 Seals for it. Was on dancer, no tank at the time.
Oh it's this thread again.
Hunt is 7 years old content and people have been whining about it for just as long. SE has never made significant changes to the system since 2.35. Hunts were never meant to be loot pinatas to be zerged, but killed by small groups of hunters who spend the time for it.
No such thing as pulling early or sniping hunts. What people need to understand the system is not meant to be fair.

Hunt listings in PF don't bite unlike listings for some other content.
The goal is to fill the party as fast as possible so the party has sufficient enmity for full credit. As a result, hunt party listings get set up for self-invite instead of having to wait on a party leader to decide to let you join. It's rare to find a hunt PF with requirements listed (an exception might be a train conductor having the last party slot locked so those arriving late will know which zone the train is in). The community is generally welcoming and it's not unusual to find party members giving a lift to someone in the party that hasn't unlocked flying in a zone yet despite that slowing them down.
If you had been in a party for the S rank, you would have gotten more than 10 Seals. Hunts are very rewarding for the time spent (perhaps too much).
It's definitely worth learning to use Party Finder. You do need to complete the level 50 quest "Let the Hunt Begin" at your Grand Company for hunt listing to appear in Party Finder. Once you've done that you can open Party Finder, click on World then The Hunt and it will display any open parties listed for the Hunt. Click a displayed party and hit Join. You're now part of the party. Or you can list your own party and others will join it the same way, no need for you to respond to shout requests for invite. Unless I'm showing up late, my parties fill within 10-20 seconds.
Don't let one bad experience deter you.
