Yeah there is no advanced deformation happening when you make your character shorter or taller. But isn't the height scaling in XIV an actual 1:1 proportion ratio with everything?
So, scaling wouldn't really change how gear is displayed regardless. The only issue I could see would be extreme up scaling causing the texture pixels to be even more visible, but doubtful that would be an issue for a 10% increase.
I can respect your view but I still fail to see how giving them a wider height range would destroy a racial difference. They will still have a tall option that difference will still exist, they will still have their ears. Everything you love about them would still exist with you playing as one because you would still be able to pick the height that best aligns with your desires for your character. Your image will still remain intact just others around you might differ.Believe me, I was amongst the group of people who were absolutely infuriated at the idea of male Viera being introduced into XIV. In the end, I figured it was pointless essentially protesting the idea, when the developers had already made the character and already announced it's coming in Endwalker - I have accepted that at this stage because public demand won.
And your last message, I see that but my issue is; I would be the very few people who would stay true to the lore and make the viera medium/max height.. Everyone else would make it the minimum for the sake of being cute. The race is known for being tall and towering over humans - that is what I loved about it and makes them stand out even more. People can argue that a mere 4 inches "wouldnt make a difference" but honestly, it would especially next to a normal sized Viera.
When I came across Viera in XII I was astounded at the site of them, their height, their white hair, tanned skin, long nails etc - you could not mistake a Viera for anything other than their race due to the defining characteristics... Meanwhile, if the minimum height was hypothetically 5'6 I'm just going to assume they're not real viera and they're just no different from the human staff in the gold saucer who are wearing rabbit ears .
I can deal with the developers skipping out on digitigrade feet, longer arms and more bulky posture, basically humanised them even further - they only made these changes because it would've really reduced what we could wear. What I will not stand for is people further adjusting them by wishing they could be smaller in height therefore just completely ruining one of the very few racial difference we have.
I get overall from a lore POV that seeing a shorter female would greatly annoy you, but for me personally a wider range of options that allows people to create a character that best aligns with what they desire provides an overall larger net good then restricting something just for the sake of having restrictions.
Guess we should roll in the 5 feet plus lalafell, along with non midget fem au ra?I can respect your view but I still fail to see how giving them a wider height range would destroy a racial difference. I get what OP is coming from because I'd buy fantasia's just to have a pick at better designed races & updated character options that have nothing to do with height.
Or I'd mention how I'd buy Hilda's ponytail off of the mogstation & even though Yoshi-P has said he'd add it if people show interest back several years ago which people have constantly & we still don't have it- and those are just hairstyles people have requested- All we've gotten are several lacking hairstyles from a contest that was botched & medium length hair from the dancer quest due to the complaints of us only having short hair-- People have asked for WoL stubble & beards only to be told "no."
Updating only the height is an even longer shot & people would want more than just a new height adjustment, so goodluck on your requests
well that might be the point. i kind of understand people not wanting a race like female viera to be able to be much smaller because of immersion. when you play a female viera and all you see is vieras that are much smaller - it kind of breaks your immersion level of said race - since as said before a big characteristic of the (female) viera is being these tall, slender beings. now if you are the type of person that could just blend out every other adventurer around you it would be another story.
to be honest this is why im going to be a tall, lanky bun boy. i mostly play miqo‘te, if i want something at that height range i‘ll just phantasia back into my miqo boi.
4 inches up and down it isn't in any shape or form identifiable as "much smaller" in any world. It's just a little bit of added flexibility to let people get closer to their ideal image of their own character. And there'd likely be as many taller viera as shorter.
