Uncanny valley... Have you ever imagined anime girl in real life made out of flesh and bone? That stuff is nightmarish

I assume it's cultural/hivemind, because since it's very clearly stylized after anime, it's not what uncanny valley is regardless of how much people like spouting the buzzword out.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here: People put money and effort into a hobby therefore doll not creepy?

Wow so not liking something is a hivemind now.. TIL -_-

Creeped by semi-realistic, human doll isn't that uncommon. I don't give af how complicated it is, the face is still unnerving. I don't think anyone ever trash the mechanism behind it, just the looks.

If you like it, then buy it. No need to berate other people for not liking it.

    Nice buzzword ya got there.

Anyways I'm creeped out by it because of the slightly opened mouth, it makes it look like a Y'shtola cosplayer more than Y'shtola herself. That, and holes are scary.

I don't get why people hate this.
Porcelain dolls are beautiful and elegant.
If people keep rejecting this, the numbers of artisan will decrease more and more and someday it will only appear in museum or history books.

While you're probably correct in regards to humans being able to be afraid of pretty much anything, I think its fair to say that there are some fears that are more "prevalent" than others - the whole horror genre draws from things like achanophobia (spiders), ophidiophobie (snakes), hämatophobie (blood)... and well, the list goes on and includes dolls as well.

So I guess like a lot of things it boils down to: Are enough people affected by this to do something about it? The more people affected, the more likely it is that something gets done about it - there are probably more people afraid of dolls than people afraid of hippos, at least in our western world (and we probably encounter more dolls than hippos... at least in our western world).

I dont think that people "hate" the doll - they're creeped out by it, aka "afraid" of it. Thats something different.
The whole thing about a phobia is that people who dont suffer from that phobia dont really get it. Its not a rational fear after all - what looks beautiful and elegant to you might be terrifying for someone else (in a sense its the whole "Theres no accounting for taste"-thing).
I dont think we need to worry about this artisan craft disappering, though - not everyone suffers from automatonophobia and given the price of those dolls especially they're obviously aimed at "connoisseurs", not at the masses. As long as not every doll-enthuiast starts suffering from that phobia, that trade should be save...

"Afraid" you say ? If they were traumatized then I understand that.
Moreover, If it was bugs or animals then I totally get it but how can someone afraid of a doll ?
Did some doll er... jump to their face when they were young or something ?
Look, I'm not trying to be funny but if you're afraid of something, make it explainable why you afraid, or I don't buy it.

We don't say that the dolls are creepy, we say that the doll supposedly representing Y'shtola is creepy.

You understand that what you want is this?
