    Philosophical gameplay question

So, my first and only character is a Paladin. I like it, and I've got equipment for it, but I also kinda want to play Red Mage. Blue Mage also sounds interesting, but Red first.

Would I be better off playing through the MSQ as a paladin first, in the class I'm used to and equipped for (currently just starting HW), or would it be reasonable to change over?

You can't play through MSQ as a Blue Mage, but if you're wanting to try Red Mage, try getting some gear for it by running the MSQ roulette. That also let's you get a feel for the gameplay to see which you like better.

Try red mage out in a lvl roulette and see what u think, if after u play it and like it then take it through.

You can lvl red mage up in palace of the dead and start right at the quest your on, u unlock palace of the dead by doing a quest in new gridania by the inn room.

It's given by a lalafell and it's called the house that death built.

It really doesn't matter, but if you change over then you have to level the other class to the same level as your MSQ and put some gear on it which may be inconvenient.

Tanks can have faster queues for some content because DPS is a more popular role, so you may experience longer queues on Red Mage.

During the catch up expansions, the main story throws so much xp at you that you might be able to level both PLD and RDM side by side and never reach a level lock in the MSQ. Even if you do reach a level lock, a couple dungeon runs as each will get you over that and ready to continue. As for gear, the MSQ will also supply you with some of that, and you can supplement it with dungeon drops and Poetics tomestones.

Play both jobs if you like both jobs.

This is only an issue for ARR/HW jobs. For Stormblood onwards (so including red mage) the jobs start at the same level as the quest to unlock them and give you a decent set of gear so there's no delay in switching job and continuing with your MSQ.

This too. Quests give a lot of EXP and the levelling roulette will give you a nice boost if you're not keeping both classes up to speed.
