New laptop shuts down while playing game on AC Adaptor

I just got a new gaming laptop. The game plays fine while solely on battery, but the moment I plug in the AC adaptor to recharge after an hour, the entire laptop shuts down. If I try to boot the game while it's plugged in, it shuts down again. Doesn't make much sense since the fans work fine and the game didn't overload the memory. I haven't downloaded other MMOs yet to see if this is only FFXIV issue or not.

    Katana GF66 11UD
    CPU: Intel Core i7
    Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050Ti Laptop GPU, 4GB GDDR6
    53.5 Battery (Whr)
    AC Adaptor: 150W

I tried fixes like lowering graphics and updates such as the most recent BIOS (as suggested by manufacturer after I called their tech support) but nothing's working. Not sure what to do at this point so as of now it's just gaming <1 hr before battery drains and then logging out to recharge. Not ideal for long sessions, but it's all I can do.

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

How long have you been experiencing this issue? Additionally, does this occur when the the laptop is not plugged into the adapter? Were any changes or updates made to the PC at all?

I noticed the issue same day I got the laptop. The first instance was the moment I plugged in the AC Adaptor to recharge, and it's been happening daily. I can run the game fine as long as the AC Adapter is not plugged in. This happened before I did updates and after.

There's ways you can change settings for when a laptop is plugged in vs on battery. Have you compared the settings just to see where there could be some level of variation?

Check your Power Settings in first instance - see if there's some differences between Plugged In and On Battery as Sangtawon has suggested - especially for CPU performance (I've seen someone before have Plugged In set to 5% CPU performance and wondered why their laptop was very slow when plugged in before).
Also check Event Viewer straight after it happens (as it does it every time it is easy to replicate). Look for errors in Application or System logs - that may indicate what's happening.
When you get chance check it with any other 3D game (it could be GPU power related), not necessarily MMO's unless it' doing something funky with your network adaptor.

I have an GF65 and had an issue like this, try the Nvidia control panel and "Manage 3D settings" and then check "Prefer maximum performance" under the Power management mode.
Also check Windows mobility center and make sure "High Performance" power plan is set, this solved my issue as the power plan selection under the battery icon was not working for AC, battery only, which I believe is related to Nvidia battery boost.

If you have Dragon center app also check its power plan settings is set to High Performance.

    UPDATE

I took the laptop back to the store I got it from and did an exchange. According to them the model was defective where the 'motherboard short circuited itself' since my laptop mysteriously shut down when my mom was using it to access her e-mail. Got the same model, works perfectly fine unplugged and plugged in.

Thank you for the replies, not sure how to change the title to "Solved" status.
