I recently started to ask myself a question about Garlemald: since Garlemald appear to have oppressive government, and thus, most likely, open critiques of them are prohibited, are political jokes a thing among common people (Including native Garleans)?

I could definitely picture underground comedy in Garlean-occupied territories, it's just not something of the scale the game cares to talk about all too often.

I wish it did, I'm honestly way more interested in that than I am in a lot of the bigger-aiming stuff.

Something tells me this was probably something the Prima Vista excelled in, especially under Emet Solus's rule - that the troupe had a certain amount of leeway in satirising and gently nitpicking the weaknesses of the Empire's elite, knowing full well that because of the Emperor's patronage they could get away with a lot more than the average mummer on the street.

It's very likely he loved the critiques and jokes pointing out the weaknesses. He did seem to be a man who loved irony and had a taste for theatrics and all that came with them.

I imagine it would be a bit like the recap episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender. A certain amount of criticism and self-depreciating humor is allowed but at the end of the story the Empire would be victorious.
