Dungeons we need to talk dungeons

First I want to say I love doing most of the dungeons in game.
Now as time go we getting less and less of them. It started from 3 per patch and now we are at 1. If I got thing correctly we will get even less in 6.x. 1 dungeon each 2 patches. Problem is the dungeons in them self do not improve at all. The most hard ones are from 2.x days. We never really got any content in place of the cut dungeons. So what you think SE need to do. Make the 1 dungeon harder and interesting? Stop doing them over all?
I want them to make a extream dungeon of all the dungeons in game. Where you need to be max level and close to bis to do them.have mechanics in them be harder and not let you ignore them.
    So what you think?

i love how dungeons look and they can be a great way to deepen the Lore. but there are other ways to get that. other than always the same corridor.

that being said, i would love a harder optional dungeon every other patch. with more mechanics, more dmg, stricter lvl synch and with a LOT more adds... like a room full with it where players have to be careful what to pull. with adds walking around and some adds with high dmg which have to be focused.

not every dungeon has to be like that. and it doesnt need to be in the msq. but it would be awesome if we get such a dungeon now and then. maybe with a small story and a bit more Lore.

Aurum Vale is a good teacher dungeon, and even easier now than it used to be

True, but it is really the only dungeon of its kind. I speak particularly about the first room, where I personally have had about 7/10 runs through it wipe multiple times on all the adds.
Its the only dungeon (I can think of) where a party that has either a inexperienced healer or tank will cause it to wipe, regardless of how hard everyone else tries to carry.

The only real way to sneak by without playing the game at a decent level is by pulling only ONE (you can do more of course but please let the hyperbole slide) of the packs at a time, and then also making sure none of the wandering ones sneak up on the party.
I loved it as a dungeon to know I was confidant in a new role or class starting out, and I wish there were more dungeons that felt as challenging to all party members.

Shake the damn things up for a start. You done one, you done them all. Its the same linear corridor of trash followed by a boss that most of the time carries no inherent difficulty. Lunar bahamut hits like a foam bat.
Shb bascially confirmed that dungeons with trust are basically overly long solo duties designed for afking dps. (walk up to trash, let tankcred pull, sit there for 5 minutes while the trust beats the enemy) where the only bit of work they have to do is occasionally walk out of a boss aoe and push a button to advance.

I get that they're set pieces, but set pieces aren't gameplay, they are pretty graphics. Make them a bit more random in the paths between bosses. Optional sidepaths with minibosses (and a buff after beating the dungeon so if you want to go tackle the miniboss but the tank barrelled straight past it and they have now left you can)

also one of the few dungeons where if you dont communicate.. chances are good you will be restarting.... if dps is wandering all over and tossing aoes all over, will wipe,

the first room will either go well, or you know how the rest of the run will be lol

place used to terrify me until I ran it with someone that knew what they were doing and communicated it

I do too love aurum vale. The environmental damage makes it fun. Sadly very few past that point ever use it. Also Dzemael Darkhold is another great change up with the protection fields and popping up aoes and the first boss. 8 man raids should have more areas like the first one in aurum vale but atlast they are now just glorified trials.

    Also dragons, because DnD!

    I also love Aurum Vale.

It's a real shame that dungeons have become so linear and streamlined. For whatever reason, the development team appear convinced that the best way forward is to avoid any optional paths or objectives. I don't think it's true that players would only ever focus on the quickest, most efficient route to completion. It's just a matter of making it worthwhile to go off of the beaten track. Maybe that means a chance of a rare enemy appearing, or a treasure chest full of gil that disappears if a randomised puzzle isn't solved correctly. There's a lot of things that could be done, really - and many other MMO's have embraced such design choices.
