    FFXIV Suggestions

I have been playing the game for a while now and have always noticed areas in the game that I felt could be improved on.

Since the list of suggestions is a little wordy, I decided to post it in a TwitLonger and link it instead.

Please find the below self explanatory list for your convenience.

yea most of the stuff you mention can't be done without reworking the game from the ground up. you are right in that many of your suggestions are inapplicable, inaccurate, and incorrect.

Not to be short, but here's a list of rebuttals due to the way the devs have responded to feedback throughout the years.

    1. everything uses the duty finder, you can't separate it out.

    2. don't queue for something when you have to watch a cutscene

    3. Yoshi-p is not interested in 4 man mythic+ style content. he has mentioned this before. they are more interested in creating large scale things like Baldesion Arsenal and Delubrum Reginae.

    5. Yoshi-p has also said they can't do a glamor log. again rework from the ground up would be needed.

    6. /isearch

    8. 3rd party tool can do this. not saying you should tho

    9. don't do msq roulette then. the rewards are there for sitting thru it. if they allowed anything else, see your reward go bye-bye.

    11. you think people will read it?? lololol

    12. people abused this with a 3rd party tool so they took it away. blame them for you not being able to change waymarks during battle.

    13. 3rd party tool, again use at your own risk.

    14. /bm sit macro

    15. you can still chat via linkshell/cwls/fc chat

    16. you have a journal, use it.

    20. many people have asked for it, prob not gonna happen.

    24. the game is played in real time world wide. if you live in an inconvenient time zone, well that's on you.

    29. do it right in the first place, if you goof up it's on you.

    30. prob not gonna happen with the way the game is coded.

    32. when you leave the interior of the house that instance is "unloaded". that's why you get ejected. they're not going to keep interiors loaded up with no one inside, waste of resources.

    B. Yoshi-P has stated many times he is not interested in adding voice chat in-game. there are plenty of alternatives out there.

    C. Unnecessary.

    1. Noted.

    2. I stopped queueing or withdraw from queues when I have to watch a cutscene. The point of the suggestion was to try and mitigate this issue.

    3. Noted.

    5. Noted.

    6. Not exactly what I was referring to. /isearch just says that a match was found, doesnt do anything that my suggestion explained.

    8. Would be nice if there was a legitimate alternative. Any reason why this can't be introduced into the game instead of using a 3rd party tool?

    9. Don't see how it needs to be an AFK dungeon though. It can be reworked to be something else is what I was trying to say.

    11. Well I can't speak for FFXIV but people always read the dungeon journal in WoW and used it to link abilities in chat as part of the strategy discussions during wipes, etc. I don't see why people wouldn't be able to do the same in FFXIV.

    13. Would be nice if there was a legitimate alternative. Any reason why this can't be introduced into the game instead of using a 3rd party tool?

    14. Any reason why this can't be introduced into the game instead of using a work around?

    15. Yes, but I was referring to the private messages in that suggestion.

    16. From what I can tell, the journal only shows what is completed and what you have in your quest log at the moment. It does not display what is yet to be completed that you can go, start, and complete. In order to do the 2nd part, you have to do your research online through FFXIV wiki, etc. Feel free to explain if I am not using it correctly.

    20. Noted.

    24. It's the middle of the day for all EU players is what I meant; has nothing to do with my time zone. And I understand that it is based on the common reset timer based on Japanese local time, as clarified in the suggestion.

    29. Maybe it doesn't have to be.

    30. Noted.

    32. Noted.

    B. Noted.

    C. Noted.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

I would suggest posting them one at a time over time.

    1. GATEs are not supposed to have a queue in the first place, the reason they do is because the Gold Saucer is more popular than they anticipated and there are not enough duty servers for the Gold Saucer.

    2. I think they would rather disrupt your cutscene than make everyone else wait 40 minutes for you to watch the end credits of an expansion before doing Cape Westwind.

    3. Challenging content with 4 people is a popular request but so far does not seem that is the direction they want to go.

    4. You can already view thread start history.

    5. Copying WoW's transmog system is a popular suggestion but since it doesn't work that way already there must be challenges with doing it that way.

    6. You can search for items with /isearch.

    7. You can make macros use your class hotbars (which are separate from your job hotbars), your cross-hotbars and the shared hotbar and copy from them in different situations.

    8. Chat bubbles aren't that important. You can just look in the chat box.

    9. They want to rework the Main Scenario roulette but that's easier said than done. It takes time and resources and they will get round to it when they have time. Right now the expansion is the priority.

    11. There is no dungeon journal because you are supposed to stop at the purple line and discuss strategy with your party. They don't really want there to be a single strategy and want each party to be able to come up with their own way to do the mechanics. The way fights work is the mechanics are introduced to you one at a time and then combined to test how much you learned.

    12. You used to be able to place markers while fighting but it was misused.

    13. Adding "additional information to item tooltips that allow you to immediately determine whether you have already obtained the item or not" has already been suggested in a live letter and they claimed it was impossible (it's not).

    15. Sending messages to people in a dungeon probably doesn't work because you also didn't used to be able to send messages across servers, but now that you can, sending them to the dungeon servers would make sense. It probably doesn't make that much difference because you are too busy fighting in there to talk.

    16. There is a quest log with a search. Open your journal and click Complete. If a veteran is trying to go back and find blue quests they could just look it up with Google to find full lists.

    18. It would be nice to play orchestrions anywhere but we have youtube. They probably want to sell the music albums too.

    20. Instead of passing on all items you can just not roll at all. In a dungeon I don't roll on anything but the last chest. There is no time for that.

    22. 4 chat logs is limiting. We have a feature to separate them into multiple log windows but because we are still limited to 4 this is almost pointless.

    24. Do your dailies when you come back from work knowing they will reset at 6pm (about the time you are finished). Then it won't be a problem.

    26. Displaying all beast tribes on one page could become more confusing and make it harder to find the tribe you want as more get added, so I don't think either solution can be perfect.

    29. I think changing your roll could cause problems by making the game not sure who is really done with their roll. If you make a mistake then you make a mistake.

    31. If a home is instanced it would be safer not to try and put you back in one in case of the unlikely chance that instance is occupied by somebody else.

    A. Your character does not say anything because they don't want to determine your character's voice or sentences for you. Only you know how you want your character to be so that is not likely to happen. Some people make a macro to say something in the chat box whenever they use a Limit Break.

    B. Proximity voice chat might get drowned out by the sound effects of the bosses. Because your party members may have the feature disabled, you could be shouting at them and they wouldn't know.

    2. It shouldn't make people wait for you, they would get someone else queued into their roulette in your place and you would be bumped back a few in the priority list. At least that's how the suggestion was meant to sound like. Doesn't mean that its workable practically speaking obviously. Perhaps the issue here is that I made a suggestion to the problem instead of just proposing the issue and facilitating a discussion about potential solutions besides the "deal with it" response.

    4. Care to explain how we can check that? I was referring to the suggestions we submit through the in game help desk suggestion box.

    5. Noted

    6. I tested as it was part of the previous person's reply and all it did was say that I had the item in my inventory. My suggestion was to have it so that you can find the item in your inventory. This would be especially helpful if you have a cluttered inventory. Again, not saying it is practically achievable, but was just thinking out loud.

    7. I do have that set up. Perhaps I need to reprioritize the buttons I have and reorganize instead, and just manage with what is available.

    8. True, they are not that important, and even for a player like myself that comes from a game that has chat bubbles, a few days without it in ffxiv and I actually forgot about them. The suggestion was just to have an optional setting to cater to people that would prefer them.

    9. I understand.

    11. I appreciate that perspective.

    12. Last person said that it was misused as well, I am curious to know how.

    13. Noted

    16. I had to use google/wiki search as an alternative, as you rightly explained. My suggestion was to have such a change be incorporated in game as a qualify of life improvement. It would be very convenient, especially for new players who are overwhelmed with 4 expansions worth of side content.

    18. Noted

    20. Noted, care to give your opinion about suggestion no. 30 as well?

    22. Agreed

    24. Suggestion appreciated

    26. Perhaps that's true.

    29. Noted, and thinking about it based on your reply and the previous person, I find myself in agreement.

    31. Noted

    A. Noted

    B. That could be mitigated by simply changing up the volume of ingame sound bars (i.e. Sound Effects, System Sounds, etc.). But as the previous person said, this is probably not a priority for FFXIV since there are a ton of external alternatives. I just personally like proximity voice chat which is why I included it.

Generally speaking, based on the two replies received in the thread so far, it seems that the limiting nature of the FFXIV game as a system (from a coding perspective) is a major factor in why the game is unable to implement many of the suggestions. At least that is what I summarized from the two responses. Is there any plan for them to try and address that? is it even possible/feasible to address at this point?

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

    15. Existing chat restriction of not being able to message people while they are in an instance should be fixed. Every time I enter an instance, it completely disrupts any conversation I was having with anyone via private messages.
If I am in an instance I like the fact I cant be bothered by outside messages. Some people persist in messaging you even when you tell them you are in an instance , it can get distracting. And annoying.

Back in WOW it got EXTREMELY annoying when "that person" wont take no for an answer and keeps messaging you even when you tell them "I am busy"

    So no.

In regards to waymarks - there was a 3rd party tool that used injected code into the game to automate the function on the fly. That's a very big no no from the devs perspective and not allowed. Therefore they patched the game to disallow this and locked the function so that it is what it is today.

It made things like Ultimate (esp TEA)... "easier" I want to say since they could set waymarks on the fly automatically depending on the phase.

A lot of the game is built on what came before it. At some point they will have to address things (and they are - with the belt removal, HQ item gathering removal, and the stat squish) but larger issues like reworking Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium requires more resources and time taken away from other things they want to do - like keeping up with their predictable planned update schedule and thinking up new ideas. Things in the past have been done to older areas - like adding flying to all ARR areas, but it takes time and money and manpower. Even with XIV being as popular as it is - they still have a budget assigned to them by Square Enix that they have to work within. Not all problems can be solved just by throwing money/time/people at it either.

It's a two step process... /isearch let's you know you have the item somewhere in your inventory
you can then select the item in the chat log, access the submenu, then Search for Item
this will bring up a more detailed window that specifies which of your storages the item is in... and iirc, in the chat log it will specify which tab of that inventory as well.

For example... the window will show that your retainer has x amount of item, in the chat log it will say your retainer name plus the page/tab# of their inventory where the item is located.

Additionally, /isearch works with partial entries as well... so if you can't remember the exact spelling, but are positive you have something, you can troubleshoot by using less characters.

For example... Mythrite Ore, could /isearch "Mythrite Ore", /isearch myth, or /isearch ore to try and get the item listing in chat log to then use Search for Item on.

Some of it is self-imposed limits, like the game is capable of a lot but limits itself on purpose so that it works on PS4. Some of it is because it's not a priority (new patch content is) or the human resource cost would be too great. Sometimes doing your suggestion would cause another problem that you can't see.

The spaghetti code response gets thrown around but any game of this age would accumulate it. It's unavoidable that as time progresses they want to do something different from the initial design but the earlier designs didn't account for it, so it forces them to work around it or change it.
