Maybe us old timers need to scour side quests and flavor text.

I have an alt that I mostly don't touch, but because I want the Regalia on her I've been doing some level grinding. Today I did a Brotherhood of Ash repeatable that has you go to spots called tempered ground. You wait and fight a Tempered person. When they're kneeling on the ground you sprinkle what's called sacred ash. It's a failed attempt to try and untemper non Amalj'aa. When you turn in the quest the Amalj'aa says that even though it failed their people won't give up on trying to find something that'll work.

So, I'm left wondering what other most players probably didn't read/pay attention to things that might exist between 2.0 and 3.4/3.5 when we meet GA Bu and then between then and meeting Halric that hint at people trying to work on a possible cure for tempering.

When you use the ash most yell in pain saying that it burns while others ask Ifrit for aid.

I would be more surprised at her being alive than dead. It's been A WHILE, and the Ifrit-worshipping Amal'jaa both A: love to summon Ifrit, and B: love to use human sacrifices for it.

But yes, I do absolutely agree with checking out old ARR stuff especially. There's a lot of stuff that ARR states as fact or lays down to build on later, that a lot of people just don't retain because it's said before we have any context as to what's important.

If she's still alive then an attempt to untemper her with the Porxie method probably happened offscreen. I doubt they'd ever integrate a beast tribe questline into the MSQ.

Where do you get the "human sacrifice" bit from? They certainly love to offer people's souls to Ifrit and increase the number of worshippers, but no mention I can recall of physical sacrifice, and there are a number of living tempered people around Zanr'ak – there's a whole encampment of tempered Flames who don't seem to be prisoners.

It's not the Amalj'aa, but Ga Bu's parents were sacrificed to summoned Titan in 3.4.

IIRC the original three primals extreme fights have a human sacrifice component to them.

    Re; sacrifice

While the primal is indeed consuming the aether of their sacrifices, it doesn’t actually eat the victims.

So while not a sacrifice in the “feeding the dragon a maiden” sense, the result is the same: dead.

While sacrifice usually involves actual slaughter of creatures, it is not specific to the body/flesh.

It's a sacrifice, but willing self-sacrifice of a devoted worshipper – a beastman, not human – to create the ritual foci that fuel the summonings.
