Paying it forward!

Morning! I just wanted to share a quick tale. I won't mention names since I don't know if they'd want attention or not for it but...I wanted to share the tale at least.

So I've been after a particular item for a while: Shaded Spectacles. Ferra has a 'bouncer' outfit and the one thing that would complete the look are those. Problem: Those are at the very least 400K Gil on the server I play on. I have 100K to my name.

I publicly lament my woes, "Wish these specs didn't cost an arm and a leg..." And a individual doing some crafting speaks up: "How much are the mats?"

The primary material is Tempered Glass, which to my limited understanding is a very old material that no one collects. It goes for 155K Gil a piece which is almost the same price as the Specs. Naturally this isn't a much better solution as they also require another material on top of it.

I offer my thanks for offering and prepare to queue for some Roulettes. Figured I'd dedicate the day to be a money making day. They /tell me, "Are you a new player?" I say I'm relatively new: I dabbled in FF14 before but didn't get far in it. Ferra is my first attempt at going deep into FF14. She calls me back to the Market Board and offers the Shades. Just flat out.

Naturally I am reluctant: Again, 100K Gil to my name, if I was to pay them back it would take a hot minute or two. I say they don't have to and try to give them an out. They instead offer the Shades and a lovely flower for the same price of nothing.

They did mention that they didn't want my money (It raised a few flags initially: I do ERP but I gatekeep the HECK out of it and I certainly wouldn't do it for items or Gil) but instead they asked to pay it forward. It was such a genuinely kind gesture that I'm not used to in online spaces.

I accepted and very much thanked the individual for their kindness. So, while I am certainly gonna help someone get something of their own one day, I figured this is also one way to pay it forward. Be nice to folks even if you get frustrated, try to be good to one another. World is a chaotic nightmare as is, we can at least make Erozea a nice escape from it for a bit.

What a great story! I have met many people in many games who silently go out of their way to help newer people. It's always amazing when it happens and renews faith in the gaming community.

It is rare drop from only two submersible destinations or chests from a Leather Buried Treasure Map, obtained from an Unhidden Leather Map which itself is a very rare drop from any ARR/HW chest found by ARR/HW Timeworn Treasure Maps.
That is why it's generally fairly expensive on the market board.

I do need to practice using Gpose more! I usually just hide HUD and take a screenshot then but yeah, think I can do a lot of fun lighting stuff once I dive into Gpose.

Oh, wow.

The glass is a rare drop from a map that in itself is insanely rare, or looks like some time doing submarine missions and a lot of luck.

Course, now that I know it exists, it's something I'll have to work on myself, eventually.
