Mentor abuse DC on purpose

I'm here to put a problem into a interessting discussion.

For this whole case, please know that I'm a Mentor.

Today, I encountered an other Mentor, and we tagged in Sephiroth Extrem (Yeah, bad luck). I knew this mentor because he was literraly avoiding the 30 minute penalty by disconnecting on Purpose ! (No DC disrupt symbol was shown).

How do I know that he did this ? Because in a Rathalos Extrem, a few days before, this guy just mocked a newby who obviously boosted his character using the cash shop item as I was explaining how to handle some mecanics on the boss, then Disconnect right after that. We waited, he came back, and disconnect in the second again !

This kind of behavior is unacceptable ! Mentor shouldn't do this, and this is a reason to be banned, if we follow this rules who is in the ToS :

◆Obstruction of play
"Obstruction of play" means all behaviour in general that obstructs another person's game play. Below is a non-exhaustive list of examples of obstruction of play:

・Intentional leaving or disconnection
This means obstructing another person's game play by intentionally leaving the game or disconnecting from the server.

Not only did this guys intentionnaly disconnect, but he also Obstruct 7 people for 5 whole minute at least, and avoid, by disconnection, the 30 minute Penalty given to guys who quit.

Am I the only one to encounter this kind of "Pseudo-Mentor" ?

yeah i've seen this during my mentor runs and during msq roulettes where they didn't get Praetorium. disconnect and hope to get kicked instead of eating the 30 min penalty.

if you feel like reporting them you can do so.

That's exactly what I did.

As I mentionned above, this is against the ToS. I don't know why I shouldn't report a player who clearly not agree with the ToS.

Of course, this kind of behavior is impacting the "Mentor Image". I've seen too many time sprouts saying to me that they got problem with Mentor being rude with them or not willing to help but just doing roulette in order to get Asterope.

Except unless they explicitly said what they were disconnecting on purpose you can't prove they are.

You have zero idea what their ISP is like or their connection.

The problem is that, while against the ToS, it's essentially impossible to prove that the DC was really intentional and actually fairly issue punishment.

But yeah, I really despise this kind of mentor. I usually apologize to the sprouts in the party on their behalf, and use it as an opportunity to explain a lot of the flaws with the mentor system, and why mentors shouldn't be implicitly trusted.

Actually, As I got two people who witness the behavior on Rathalos Ex and we were trying to talk to him when he came back but disconnected with no response and no DC logo, and 6 Other on Sephiroth Ex, with the same "No DC logo" thing, I can assure you that the disconnection he did wasn't random at all. Strangely enough, he didn't got DC on easy content like 8 man raid or Dungeon when I encountered him, but only on situation where it was difficult because of the sprouts or the content (Like Sephiroth Ex who is known to be a real pain to do.)

This is the biggest problem of being a Mentor... The image of this suffered quite a lot due to player who don't do the "Mentor" job correctly, just wanting the Asterope mount for the show and being toxic because they absolutely don't care about sprouts...

In the end you cannot prove it was on purpose, the GM might suspect their actions but the reality is nothing will come of the your report. Maybe if people keep reporting such actions action might be taken. Though as someone who “DC’s” often from MSQ roulette and have had people “claim” they were going to report me I have never had any action or even had a GM speak to me regarding the issue.

Yeah, I know of a few mentors off hand on my datacenter that participate in that exact pattern of behavior. It's a widespread type of abuse, so I don't at all doubt that's exactly what that guy is up to.

Unfortunately it mostly comes down to the GM's having a very limited view of the situation, and pretty limited time to actually review it. Their policy ends up erring on the 'safer' side, which allows a lot of this behavior to go unpunished. Generally unless someone is either getting mass reported enough to justify a deeper investigation, or openly says "I am disconnecting in order to avoid the roulette penalty", it's unlikely they'll actually be actioned on the GM side of things.

Mentors should be an exception to this behavior, not another example of it.

Too many dead-beat dad mentors out there.

Maybe they should add a second commendation system that counts solely towards applying for mentorship roles...One that doesn't give a player experience just for handing them out and gives no achievements or rewards for gathering enough but is required to apply for mentorship instead of regular comms.
