Completely agree, the only time getting an old topic out of the depth is an issue is when said topic has become irrelevant or was a troll, which is obviously not the case here.
Also yes please, those horrendous little girl animation for idle/running on certain female model really need a customization option.
Some interessting approaches were mentioned in the past already.
But i doubt we would get anything like this when its not a expantion goal to expand this kind of expression.
The last fax machine that they hotwired together for this engine would probably shortcircuit and we'd be all stuck together with Hyur /Laugh for all animations. Then we'd get looped in a circle of "It's difficult, but we are working on it" and other copy paste Japanese business PR answers that surmount to "No, you aren't getting it."? At least Japan finally got rid of floppy disks so there's hope in like... 50 years? That they advance to the modern era with technology. They've already said male Viera and (eventually) female Hrothgar will mark the end of their adding any more races to the game, so it got me thinking how they could expand upon existing ones without a massive overhaul of their whole character creation system, welcome as that would be.So... how about being able to pick animations?
I've seen countless people mention they prefer the aesthetic but not the idles/emotes (or the other way around) of one race or the other, and they're clearly set up to be able to share animations, unless the devs have to manually tweak every combat animation or unlockable emote, which I doubt?
Naturally, there's issues they'd need to address, for cases such as switching to a tailless race's animation set as a Miqo'te or Au Ra, or male Roegadyn and Hrothgar probably not being compatible with anyone else's due to their bulk, but all in all I think something like accounting for tail movement where there's none or etc. would be far less work than creating new animations (or an entire race...) from scratch, right?
What do you all think?
You would surprised one can do.
Of course its forbidden to use but modders can do a lot visual and animation stuff with the current engine.
Sometimes i think they should hire some of those to work on things like Helemts for our newer races.
Animations should be disconnected from races. They're all basically human so there is no reason why one can emote or stand one way while others can't.
I mean they still would need to redo all animation with the skeleton of each race and gender.
Its not like its no work at all.
A animations adjustments menu would be cool but i am more for new ones ala ESO personality then yoiking them from the other races.![]()
It wouldn't be entirely as simple as just copy pasting the animations, as you do have slightly different body proportions and things like tails and Miqo'te ears (which do move on Emotes, mostly older ones)...
It's the same skeleton that the races' various proportions are applied to separately. There's no reason I can think of that they would need to add anything from scratch (aside from tail movement)
Glamour without restrictions* is long overdue!
If you think so too, help keep the thread going!

The animations are one of the few things that make the races unique. If they become interchangeable, then what's the difference between a miqo'te and a hyur with cat ears?
