the game NEEDS a voice chat option in the game especially for ps4/5 players since we are stuck on controller and dont have a key board to respond to and it also takes forever to respond with the keyboard thing that the game comes with its upsetting that world of warcraft has a voice chat feature in the game and this one does not it also makes it REALLY hard when you are in an EX trial which are hard to begin with but when you play with players who dont know what they are doing and cant even read what we tell them it makes it almost impossible to complete you guys add the most useless features in the game but ignore something as important as communication in a game THAT YOU FORCE US TO PLAY WITH OTHERS its sad how a company who has lots of lawsuits up the yin yang added a feature that is super simple yet here you are with no lawsuits and cant do something as simple as that most MMORPGs have this and you dont what is wrong with you, you are on your FIFTH EXPANSION and STILL DO NOT HAVE THIS

Well, wow got its VoIP feature in bfa! That's the like... 7th expac! And frankly, I've never used that or seen anyone use it

I can see how it'd be very helpful for console players but... Doubt the netcode let's us have proper sounding voice chat!

If communication is a problem, did ya think about making some macros?

I also don't think blizzards current state and the lawsuits have any bearing on the development of FF, frankly I doubt it had anything to do with the blizzard voice feature either! Those were added when they upgraded the battle.net client AFAIK.

Which, AFAIK is the platform we use to voice chat in-game. Its not uh... Hardcoded into the game per se but the battle.net client.

Just relax and install discord on your phone if you really want to chat with your raid group. It's what everyone does in all games anyway, not just mmos neither ^^

Yoshi explained why there is no in-built voice chat function in the game way back in 2012, and I do not see him changing his mind now, in that he doesn't want it to be 'required' meta-wise by players and wants everyone on the same equal footing:

Conclusion
We currently have no plans to implement voice chat into FFXIV, even for Version 2.0.

Level of Communication
I’m also an online gamer when I have spare time, so I use voice chat when playing MMOs, online games, FPSs, and fighting games. However, voice chat is mostly used by the “hardcore players”. In MMORPGs, “chat” is the main form of communication and because it is text based it is fairly simple to use. However, hearing everyone’s voices when you’re communicating amongst a huge group of players can be highly irritating. Risks put aside, I think that the communication level in comparison to chat is a few steps higher.

Pros and Cons
Everyone pretty much said everything already.

The main cons:

There will be times when voice chat will be mandatory for things like instanced raids.
In particular, there is a fear that female gamers will get harassed when the say something and will then want to stay away.
A gap will appear between those that have/don’t have a mic.
As this will eat up more bandwidth, there will be more bandwidth costs.
We will need to create some kind of sound management, like creating an effect so that it's not your “real voice” that is being heard.


The main pros:

It is much faster than chat for direct communication so when playing as a party it is much easier.
If you can get along well with the other person, it is convenient, just like being on the phone.


Alternatives to Voice Chat
There are loads of great alternatives to voice chat such as Skype and Ventrillo. If we don’t officially support it, I think that there will be fewer cases where people will be forced to use it and told things like "come on, just use voice chat for crying out loud!" So for linkshells and what will become the Free Companies, if you can come to an agreement, I think that it would be good to consider using external software for voice chat purposes.

Summary
We will continue to make it so that our FFXIV players can play safely across all regions. Even if we can technically support it, for things that involve communication, we would have to make it official, but I think we would really need to think about this carefully so it won't be a stressful experience. So with that in mind, we will not be having official support for voice chat.

As there has been no further comments on this subject I'm pretty certain Yoshi hasn't changed his mind since so it's pretty clear SE will not add an in-built voice-chat function to the game. As the poster above said, if you need to use it, install Discord on your PC or your phone and use that instead.

again this is mainly an issue with roulettes you dont know who you will be in the group and 10 times ive got ramuh EX and i ask does everyone know what they are doing what happens is we wipe 20ish times and it makes me very angry and ive wasted like 5 ish hours thanks to this yoshi clearly doesnt know how to make some things right about the game

roulettes, practicularly EX roulettes is always going to be a game of minesweeper

built in voice chat wont change, players who doesn't like speaking/chatting will not use it

I have not play FFXIV on PS4/5, but if u need a voice chat for FC/friend, can't whatsapp/discord on phone, PSN party do the job?

you can always buy a wireless keyboard for the playstation.
That's what I use (just a simple wireless logitech keyboard that wasn't expensive at all)
Its just as easy to chat that way as if you were playing on a PC

i never play mmos with a keyboard anymore and i haven't since 2010-2011 and that game was maple story ever since maple had a controller input ive been using one ever since due to it being so comfortable for me i dont like having my hands all over the keyboard i get messed up with placement with controller i never do because my thumb will always be in the same place as for the keyboard i have to feel around for the wasd keys and it cramps my hand and its really annoying to put the controller down every time i need to say something so if no voice chat at least text to speech that way its hands free

That sounds a like a personal choice. Options to accomplish what you're saying you "need" have been provided and are available to you right now.
