I really would like to get the emerald partisan lance? Does anyone know how? i am only level 52 as a dragoon. I am confused on how trials work and the difference of the rewards between extreme and normal version of trial. If i do the regular/normal version of this trial can i get the emerald partisan lance eventually? or do have to do extreme? Also what are Totems and are they required?

Emerald Weapon Extreme drops emerald weapons outright. One might be the lance. If never see the lance drop, you can purchase it in Mor Dhona for 10 totems.

i am only level 52 as a dragoon.

You will need at least one job at Lv80 and you will have to advance the Shadowbringers MSQ to a certain point to unlock the side quests for Sorrow of Werlyt, the Weapons quest line.

I am confused on how trials work and the difference of the rewards between extreme and normal version of trial.

Normal versions are just for story and drop no rewards. These versions are easy enough to complete with a full group of random players who are all seeing the trial for the first time.

Extreme versions (named "______ (Extreme)" or "The Minstrel's Ballad: ____") drop weapons, mounts, orchestrion rolls, and crafting materials. These versions have unignorible mechanics that will often kill you if you fail two in a row, and have non-optional choreography for handling those mechanics in specific ways. You will not find these clearable with a full group of random players who are all seeing the trial for the first time and you should use /partyfinder to put together a party for these so that you can get everyone on the same page before going in to the duty and wasting a full hour wiping to the first mechanic.

Only the Extreme versions give loot. Garuda, Ifrit, Titan, and GKMMXII drop weapons on Hard, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Also what are Totems and are they required?

Each time you complete an Extreme trial, you receive a Totem for that trial direct to your inventory. Some trials give 2 at a time. You can exchange 10 totems for a weapon from that trial if you don't get the weapon you want from a proper loot drop. You can also buy the mount for that trial for 99 totems, but this option isn't available until a few patches after the trial is introduced.
