Can an existing account upgrade with complete edition?

My friend who hasn’t joined me in XIV since we briefly tried it around 2.0 (then moved on shortly after) has returned to the game this week. As far as I know she, like me until I returned for shadowbringers, didn’t own any expansions when she re-activated. Indeed she may be one of the few people in the game right now who can’t access the critically acclaimed award winning expansion Heavensward!

And like clockwork, the complete edition goes on sale! Yay!

Or more to the point: “yay?”

The question: while I’m aware (or at least I’ve been told) that pre-ordering Endwalker now would apparently lock all prior expansion access until EW launch, can the complete edition still apply immediately to an account that technically owns ARR? I’d like to know before I buy this for her! She’s got road to 70 ticking now and I’d like her to get full use out of it! Does the complete edition apply or do I need to buy her shadowbringers on its own instead?

from what I see, it includes up to Shadowbringers, which means you should have all that content immediately accessible.

The complete edition is perfect for newcomers as it includes the award-winning FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers expansion packs – all in one complete package!

as a pre-existing account, it looks to me like the only thing you do not get is 30 days free with it.

oh, as an added note.. do not get the pre order to do this, or you will be locked at whatever you currently have until launch.... or so I have heard anyway. (since technically the pre order wouldnt be "available" until November)

so the complete edition seems like a good route if you have ARR and want to be going through to the current release

oh, and if you or they are a steam player, will need to get through Steam

It's possible they could run into that. It might be safer to just buy "Shadowbringers" instead.

If what Playstation people run into is any indication, it'll force a new service account, since you can't have 2 copies of the starter edition for the same platform on 1 account.
