How about just
Ruined
You'd think Ruin II 's upgraded potency would warrant an upgraded animation and name, but apparently not.
I want Kaustra so bad.
I like train wreck as a spell name.
I just looked up what Kaustra did in Final Fantasy XI; that's a pretty interesting premise for a spell! It has a very long cast time and uses an entire fifth of your maximum MP, but the reward is another strong dot; if that could be combined together with Biolysis, that would be an example of adding more DPS variety for sure, even if it's only one more action that you can't use as often as Biolysis.
And yeah, I'm not sure why Ruin II doesn't get later animation and name upgrades despite having not one but two traits that increase its damage, especially with there being a likely third related trait as of the next expansion; I really hope that one of the job designers sees this thread and takes that into consideration soon.
Just having fun with this. I felt It could streamline the frantic opener for some cool blasting while bringing Ruin II or rather Kaustra into play. Energy Drain no longer costs AF so its no longer a choice between using AF for DPS or healing. (As much as that is an engaging choice for some, I feel it tends to always favour DPS.) I understand this yet another new system tacked onto SCH, and its not very interactive with the rest of its kit. I've been thinking how to unlink the parts, as to not have healing or dps options compete with each other, since that tends to make the dps option always win in the end.
Energy Drain now has 3 charges. Gain a charge every 30 seconds. Ability. 1second CD. Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 70. Grants 1 stack of Dissolving Aether. Restores 5% MP. (Doesn't cost Aetherflow anymore.)
New Ability: Dissolution Grants 3 stacks of Dissolving Aether. 2min Cooldown.
New Trait: Dissolving Aether Allows the stacking of Dissolving Aether which makes Ruin II turn into Kaustra. Can stack up to 6 times. Unlimited duration.
Kaustra: Instant. Spell. Same cost as Ruin II. Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 220. Applies a stack of Explosive Meltdown to the target, lasts for 30 seconds. Can stack up to 6 times.
New Trait: Meltdown When Broil ( II, III, IV ) hits a target with a stack of Explosive Meltdown, it causes the stacks to detonate dealing unaspected damage with a potency of 20 per stack and applying a damage over time effect of 20 per stack over 20 seconds to the target and all enemies within 15yards. (So for example three stacks will deal 60 damage plus 60 potency damage over 20 seconds)
The idea is to weave Energy Drain into your Broil and then weave Kaustra into it during a burst phase, while also providing a bit of a break during those Broil spam moments. Since Energy Drain + Kaustra is DPS neutral with Broil, you can fill the target up with 3 Explosive charges and top it off with a Broil to detonate them.
Broil > Biolysis > Chain Stratagem > Energy Drain (That turns Ruin II into Kaustra) > Kaustra > Energy Drain > Kaustra > Energy Drain > Kaustra > Dissolution > Energy Drain > Kaustra > Energy Drain > Kaustra > Energy Drain >Kaustra >Broil to detonate the 6 stacks for a big 120 potency dot for 20 seconds. )

For those who may not be aware, Kaustra and Meltdown are the same spell, it was just given a different name in the English version of XI. Sorta like how people have asked for "Warcry" on Warrior, but don't realize that is Infuriate.

Have you ever found a tooltip editor? I'd like to put my thoughts into proper form with a program or page that lets me write them in the same format, visually as the game.
