    Voidsent propagation

Are all Voidsent former people of the Thirteenth, or do they have a way to increase their numbers after the Flood of Darkness? By which I mean, is it possible for a Voidsent to be created/born as a Voidsent and have never been one of the Thirteenth's original races?

Considering they're all fighting each other for aether as well the ability to squeeze into Source, I don't think it's in their interest to breed. On top of that, the void is completely absent of aether and I think that's necessary for new life. I'm not sure what would happen if one of them were to have a child while possessing a body on the Source, but for the most part, voidsent can only enter our realm if they possess a dead body or body part. Succubi possess dead elezen women, ahriman possess animal eyes, taurus possess sacrificed cows, etc.

The only exceptions seemed to be Momo possessing Cocobusi in the THM storyline, and Lilith possessing Arya in the RDM storyline. I can't remember the particulars of the THM storyline, but in the RDM one, Lilith said that Arya was the result of a thousand years of breeding in order to get the perfect specimen to be able to be possessed.

The voidsent can probably do what the lightwardens do, once they arrive somewhere with aether they can work with, consume it and infect others.

In Huakke Manor (Hard) some of the Wood Wailers are corrupted into demons, but I'm not sure whether that counts as a voidsent or not. One of the lore books says that demons are corrupted people from the Void, while the other lore book says that all the denizens of Huakke Manor were possessed by voidsent to become what they are now. I'm not sure if what's happening in the hard mode of the dungeon is the succubi corrupting the aether of the wailers to make them into demons, or if they're forcing voidsent into their bodies, warping them to look like demons. Either way, they're labeled as "Altered Wailer".

Regardless, if the succubi are indeed corrupting people to make them into voidsent, that still doesn't quite answer OPs question I think. I think they're looking for voidsent who have only ever been voidsent and nothing else.

To get voidsent that have only ever been voidsent, your looking at the ones that come out of portals and attack...

While it’s probably reasonable to speculate that the original voidsent were originally people of the 13th, there is no reason to think they can’t propagate on their own through some means, or create other voidsent via concentrated aether.

It’s also not unreasonable to think a major character is the source along the lines of Eden. The Cloud of Darkness, Diablos or Forgall is a good example of a potentially super-powerful voidsent we have met not unlike Innocence (that is, with sentience).

The only Sin Eater we saw with some manner of sentience was Innocence, and we only really saw him with full power for a short time. All other lightwardens were basically going insane and might have come to terms given time. The voidsent have been around for a very long time so it is reasonable to assume their “society” has matured, or that sentience is a thing they have.

How do we know, unless we observe for ourselves? :eyes:

I've never really thought about it, pretty good question to be honest.

My first assumption would be that they're the original inhabitants and that they don't really breed. The void corruption might have rendered the inhabitants functionally immortal in their new forms, and we don't know how much time has passed there anyway, it has been an age in "real" time but local time might have all but stopped when the aetherial corruption grew too great and the world fell to darkness.

Another possibility could be that new voidsent do appear from time to time, starting off as maybe something akin to a "dark" elemental sprite. Assuming the reincarnation cycle has not totally stopped and with nowhere else for recycled soul shards to go, some of those sprites might get "lucky" and be a reincarnation of an inhabitant of the 13th, those that survive for long enough would probably (maybe) grow into a new voidsent.

Those are my two guesses anyway:
    - 'They're the original inhabitants and time has no real meaning on the 13th.'
    - 'The broken reincarnation cycle of a shattered world keeps the numbers up by jamming souls into random pockets of condensed corrupted aether and hoping for the best.'
