    80 New Botanist: Help

    Hi everyone,

Just got my Botanist to 80 recently,

Broke with Gil & just feeling overwhelmed on having direction upon what to farm for MB,

I’ve heard the Diadem is the way but the mats there are MB prohibited. I am aware of its tickets in which the sheep sells about a million Gil or so,

    Any tips?

Not new to the game but very new into this gathering botanist sorts….

    PS: Not into crafting
PSS: I like collecting & selling like I did with WoW & other MMOs

    - Turn in gathered items at Flotpassant (left NPC) to get them approved, which can then be sold to earn gil. Every 5 pieces of Diadem gathered mat will be approved and be turned into 5 pieces of "Approved" mat.

    O wow!!

All this time I’ve been throwing away those inspected mats after all…

    I honestly didn’t know that,

So already inspected items ((marked as “red”)) can be sold over the MB after all?

Yeah, don't worry. It's probably less than 1 million gil that you threw away. You can easily get them back if you just keep doing what you're doing for another week.

Yes. You'll usually end up with a few stray unapproved items after you talk to Flotpassant since they're only approved in multiple of 5 but those that were approved can be sold on the marketboard. The unapproved leftovers you can discard or hold for your next trip to Diadem.

The exception would be fish if you're fishing in Diadem. Approved fish still can't be sold as they aren't directly used as crafting materials. Instead they are desynthesized (a crafting feature) to get the approved materials that can be sold.

The Grand Company Turn ins/provisions (HQ while it lasts, thanks 6.0) are a GREAT money maker. Anything that people can purchase openly on the Market Board will pay decent gil so that they can get scrips, seals, or XP.

Most crafters that aren't omni gather will purchase the mats vs. farm them. The grand company crafting turn in's change all the time and the markets fluctuate all the time. You can make a killing if you watch the GC turn in's and the mat's used in those recipes. Demand is crazy sometimes and can drive a lot competition (undercutting) and lot's of supply.

    1. Research! Research! Research! If you are serious about making money on the Market Board you need to start with goals. Researching your goals in what to farm is very important as it maximizes your time.

    2. Remember...Gathering is exchanged with time. The more time you give....the more money you make, and the more efficient you are at gathering subtracts the time needed to increase the Gil gain. Pick Clean, Kings Yield, Bountiful Yield all make you spend less time gathering, and back to the retainer faster. Learn to manage that GP.

    3. Know your node! +1, +2, +3, or the coveted +4 yield per strike coupled with Pick Clean can get you to 99, 199, 299, 399, 499 mats VERY fast if you manage your GP on those nodes more carefully. The nodes with no bonus...just farm it fast and move on. If you see the nodes with +1, +2, +3 chances it's dealers choice....HQ or normal. I save those for leaf turn II + bountiful yield II for HQ. If normal see previous method. If it's 100% chance HQ, bountiful yield II every strike. This point is changing in 6.0 as gathered HQ mats are being removed.

    4. Market Board pins. Favoriting an item can really shorten your one stop check on what to focus on every day as you farm. As mats become less viable forms of income...remove them. You will soon see the market has it's "bread and butter" items that are always in demand and sell regardless with price being the exception.

    5. Crystals. If you can bear to farm them as I find it incredibly tedious and mind numbing...they are however a very lucrative way of making money. I find this the one thing the BOT'S have a strangle hold over and will probably never let it go as nobody wants to bring themselves to farming crystals for fun.

    6. Cordials....trade your dungeon roulette gear/gathering provisions for these at the grand company. I have over 2,000 and I eat them like candy. If you really want to shorten your time gathering...cordials are the best way to help manage your time gathering.

    7. Maps! Farm them to sell them....easy. The zonureskin maps alone sell for around 30-50k each. Or farm them to use them, and the rewards are not guaranteed. However, maps are basically gambling. People buy them on MB and use them for possible money. I have made 5mil off one map party, and sometimes I only made 500 gil of a map party.

    8. Restoration/Diadem. These items sell SOOOO fast....but. I loathe diadem with a passion as I spent days in there. I suppose the one great thing about this that you are providing a community driven experience for near instant sales of the certified mats.

    9. Crafting material ratios! As an Omni crafter...I personally HATE making mid mats for higher recipes. I find them a speed bump that must be hit to get to the real recipe.
Example: Dwarven Mythril Nuggets. dimythrite sand and mythrite sand. (names could be wrong...it's been a while), but it's a 4:1 ratio. I need 4 ore to 1 sand. Now any market analyst would ask you...which would you sell more of? The 4 is going to out pace the 1, always. So when you farm items that need 4,5,6 items in a recipe over the ones that need 1,2. Your going to most assuredly going to make the sale. Focus on these and your going to see my next point....

    10. Time on Lot. Check the sales history....always. Just put yourself in a habit of doing it. I can save you a massive amount of time wasted.
Example: Make a ilevel 510 Exarch ring of fending. Let's say the item sells once per day. There are 25 hits of that item. How long do you think it will take to sell that item? 1 day...1 week?...maybe a month?

For time on lot you have to ask yourself how fast you want your RoI (return on investment) If spend 3 hours farming I want my return to be within a 24hrs. Ok, let's look at the sales history again.

Example: Dymthrite sand has made 65 sales per day. vs. tin ore of 3 sales per day. Which do you think is going to sell faster?

Pro tip: Sell what is needed....and vendor what is basically trash. Tin is like 4g per unit on MB, don't waste time posting it....it will sell in like 4 days. If you can't turn around your sales in 24hrs, your selling the wrong mats.
