This is a horrible thing, I don’t wanna log in to Forums to see it undergo brainwash tactics and only see posts like “Best game ever”
Adding to the devs delusion, are people that afraid of opinions? No game ever has had a 100% satisfactory rate
I've been specifically reading about scholar feedback from the live letter and it's very negative both here and on reddit, with good reason.
Karma.
That is all.
In fairness I do think that people on the forum are just very negative and overly dramatic when it comes to Job changes and how they play.
I remember people complaining about the same things since ARR and Heavensward, when have Healers ever been happy?
There's some truth to Tanks being homogenized too but people act like they quite literally are the same only with some color swaps.
It's not that none of the complaints have merit just that it's not a recent thing and people do overreact a lot.
There an easy reason for this. Here on the forums you can say what you want and there a close to 50/50 on positive and negative. On Reddit if you don't pray 3 times a day to yoshi you be banned. Reddit for a long time 8s a close eco system.Coming out of the live letter, Reddit seems to be generally very hype while these forums generally seem to be drowning in misery (and very concerned about teleportation fees).
Both Reddit and the forums are very self-selecting subsets of the player base and neither represents the player base more generally, but it's interesting to see general attitudes diverge so wildly coming out of the same event.
Each venue has different norms, people, etc. (though certainly with some overlap), but the contrast is stark.
Not all opinions are valid. A lot of the suggestions that come out of this forum are made by people who clearly haven't played this game don't understand design philosophy in the slightest and are only suggesting things because those concepts were in another MMO that they played and they liked that so it should be here. I.E class specs. On reddit the clearly stupid things get downvoted to hell. Here they get to presist. Which is why you get so many complaint threads here.
Your line of thinking is too linear. No one is asking mods to only make sure positive threads exist. The moderation that is asked are for threads that veer off the topic in near or total extremes, threads that get inflammatory rather than being civil, threads that could be merged together, especially if the ops are barely different than one another.
Different opinions are fine but it's clear as day that people not only don't know how to properly argue their opinion but they would also prefer to go to extreme ends just to prove a point. Sensible moderation is needed in those situations to--at the very least--try and get people to discuss opinions better.
I wish people were more aware of this. Could not have posted this better myself.MMO Champions FFXIV subforum > FFXIV Official Forums = FFXIV threads on 4chan > FFXIV thread on Spacebattles > Gamefaqs FFXIV forum >>>>>>>>> Something Awful threads > r/FFXIV subreddit > Twitter
The good FFXIV communities:
- MMO Champion has a lot of honest discussion about the game, little discussion of the story.
- The FFXIV Official Forums has some indepth posts on both gameplay and story, but many times the back and forth discussions tend to not go anywhere much because there is strawmanning and people missing each other's points. There are also some hardcore fanboys/cultists here, though not as many as on other forums.
- You will find honest discussions of FFXIV in threads on /v/, namely the gameplay (but also sometimes the story). Strangely, the WoW general on /vg/ has more actual discussion of FFXIV than the xiv general. Don't bother going to the XIV thread on /vg/ as no one actually talks about the game in there, it's just people posting their glamours. The drawback is that this being 4chan, threads are deleted after a few days so it's cumbersome digging through archive sites if you want to find discussion on a specific topic, and it's difficult to make friends there.
- Spacebattles has indepth discussions of the story. Also has good recommendations for gameplay for newcomers. Little to no discussion of the gameplay. Is a little bit of an echochamber.
- The Gamefaqs forum for FFXIV also has good discussions (namely the gameplay but sometimes the story) but people don't reply to each other as much and there aren't as many indepth discussions.
FFXIV communities you should avoid:
- Something Awful is filled with hardcore fanboys and cultists. The one guy there who doesn't think FFXIV is god's gift to mankind is regularly mocked and derided by many of the posters in that thread. The moderators will also ban you for dissenting to the narrative that FFXIV is the bestest thing ever. Also you have to pay money to register an account there, which is ostensibly to keep out the trolls, but it just results in the userbase being made up of incredibly egotistical people who think they are in a very special elitist club.
- The r/FFXIV subreddit is just fanart and memes being posted and cultists pretending everything is nice and happy and that there are no problems. Anyone who bothers trying to make an indepth discussion or doesn't go along with the consensus is downvoted and ignored. I know there are other r/FFXIV subreddits but the upvote/downvote system is cancerous and leads to echochambers.
- Twitter lol. Only good for following fanartists (the best ones are Herodio2013, Falcon_xiv, kuroimori_twee, and Q6Q6TIKIN)
I don't know what the r/FFXIV Discord is like, but given how bad your average fandom Discord is, I'm going to presume it's just as awful. Honestly Discord is best used for small communities.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
"if you don't share the hivemind opinion on issues that means your opinion is trash"
ok buddy

I think the keyword is '' enforce ''.
I don't think that anyone ( or well almost no one ) is going to argue against genuine toxicity being dealt with.
But if someone has a genuine opinion that isn't just praise then it shouldn't be removed.
Even tho I take major issues with people ranting both here and on the Reddit about '' sexualized glams '' and acting like the self-appointed content police.
I still don't think that people should get banned or have it removed because of it.
Unless they're being toxic about it, there's a difference between having an opinion that a lot/ most people will find annoying and wrong and with expressing that opinion in a way that is basically insulting and shaming people.
The latter is the issue I take with one of the more recent threads about someone wanting to hide glams.
Because the OP of that thread basically goes into it with what seems to be the intent to just go lash out at people and it does absolutely nothing but add toxicity and drama.
The OP could've worded it in a way that is more open-minded and not essentially dramabait but they didn't.
That the moderation needs to be better tho I agree with.
