YOU made you whole argument on a thing you said healers wanted.

People on this thread simply do not want be stuck spamming Glare/Broil. Does that mean they want an "elaborate DPS rotation"?

AST doesn't need a DPS rotation. It has the card game. (Which incidentally keeps getting simplified further and further reducing the attention the player has to devote to it.)
Not all alternatives to healing downtime must be "more dps buttons."
You have plenty of class fantasy to design abilities for healers to focus on when not healing.

SCH= Finding weaknesses, Debuffs, exploits, tactical positions and formations.
WHM= Summoning elementals, blessings, geomancy, traps, terrain based buffs/debuffs. Powerful elemental attacks.
AST=Manipulating buffs, extending durations, royal road, time magic, empowering buffs, slowing enemies.

In short, utility! Anything that helps the party that isn't healing.
