    Also, consider most mechanics in this game are not meant to be healed through.

    When mechanics in this game are "Do this or wipe." No amount of healing can save you. This drastically reduces the value of healing. It means you can't catch up to people's mistakes.

    Did you get hit? You get a stacking vulnerability debuff that can't be removed. You get a "damage dealt down" debuff that can't be removed. You didn't get into the proper formation, you get sent off the arena and die. Explosions kill everybody. You can count actually heal check mechanics with the fingers of a single hand.

    I still don't get the "Shields let you skip mechanics" when most mechanics essentially one shot you, even with shields, or punish you to the point your whole pull gets doomed to enrage and wipe.

    I think he's referring to things like the Wall-Cup-Game Orbs in e10s where, with a lot of overshielding and mitigation, you can tank the big damage wall and not have to do the mechanic. Note: this is unintended and requires a higher commitment of resources than most deem worth it.

    I hope they bring back something like Volcan Burst in Ifrit EX. Volcan Burst deals tiny damage, but it knocks you back. Shielding becomes useful because it can fully absorb the damage from Volcan Burst and prevent knock back.

    I also disagree with skipping mechanics with shields. Lots of mechanics in ARR ignore shields. There're also mechanics that only target player's HP, like Heartless Angel. Terror Unleashed,etc. We already know devs are capable of designing these mechanics. These are not the reason we cannot have good shielding actions.

    There're also too many one shot to my liking. Let us struggle. Let us try to recover from it. Let healer shine when they try to fix others' mistakes. Maybe instead of one shot, give us something like Healing Magic Down in E4S. Healers can still pump lots of healing to recover from mistakes, so we get to learn next incoming mechanics. I don't know what's the best way to replace current one shot mechanics, but i know those one shots are the reason why lots of healing actions are not needed.
