About New Players level skipping Healers and Tanks

IMO, they should be tagged so that they can only be matched with people that queued via the Mentor Roulette until they reach 168 hours ingame (same amount as Sprouts).

Both veteran and new players that leveled through normal means should not be punished with either 80 minutes dungeon runs or 30 minutes penalty when queueing for non-Mentor roulettes and getting matched with Tanks or Healers that either die doing single mob group pulls, or die to basic mechanics like stacks or dontstandinorange because they thought they were above the learning curve.

Non-Mentor players should not have to deal with these situations and punished if they don't.

    Edit for clarification:

This is NOT a topic intended to discuss or bash casual or bad players. When you queue up for Duty Roulette you accept that you will be queued with people of different skill levels and/or different levels of commitment with the game.

What this topic is meant to discuss is people that decided to skip all of the game tutorials and learning curve to jump straight to the end of the game getting queued up with people that DID NOT accept to take up the role of Mentors, resulting in situations where you have to sit through 50+ minutes in a dungeon explaining basic role actions and mechanics that should be known by that point but the player decided to skip, or take a 30 minute penalty if you leave, essentially punishing the players no matter what for the decisions of 1 person.

TL;DR this is not a discussion about capabilities but a discussion about decisions.

Why? There are plenty of people that leveled everything and still suck or are lazy. I'm more worried about them.

in a way... I kinda agree with this. nothing is worse for people that need positionals than someone tanking and constantly turning the boss or jumping around like a bouncey ball ball because thats how they tanked in another game...or healers not being able to figure out which heal is actually going to keep the tank, dps or anyone alive because they have just used glare in the 10 levels they did have to do (if that)

never happen though because of the discrimination potential, but would be nice to have an idea in the dungeon if they have a clue what the heck they are supposed to do.

Pretty much. Many are even "mentors".

I don't care about people being good or bad at the game. Each person has different skill level. I can deal with that and it's generally not a huge issue, maybe it means 1 wipe from a wall to wall pull or a dungeon taking 5 or 10 more minutes.

The problem I have is being thrown into a level 70+ dungeon and having to explain to a WHM that he has other options aside from Cure, that Esuna should be used to cleanse certain debuffs that have a white bar on top, and that they should throw some DPS inbetween heals instead of sitting there waiting; to a Tank that he shouldn't be spinning the boss around or turning Tank Stance on and off every mob pull, to use AoEs for multiple mobs and to use Provoke on the boss if they die and are rezzed; that the orange circle means bad; that the circle with arrows pointing in means stack; that the circle with emanating waves means proximity damage; that the arrow on top of their head means to get away from the group cause something bad is gonna drop on them; that the eye means look away; that the arrows pointing out means get away from that player; etc.,etc.,etc and whichever mechanic specific to that particular boss on top.

Basically I don't want to have to explain 70 levels of content over 80 minutes of a dungeon just because someone thought 88% of the game was optional.

Dealing with people making a mess of things is part of the FFXIV experience, OP.

You still have to explain that to the people that leveled it and hope they don't get mad.

Sadly I can’t think of any way this could’ve not turn into some sort of discrimination. Once the ‘bad players’ realized what’s the tag for I’m pretty sure the next counter thread would be something like ”How can I turn off this tag??”

Then back to square one we go.

Simple, add a disclaimer on the Mog Store Skip item that reads like "If used on the first Tank or Healer on the account service you will be queued with Mentor players for a period of 148 ingame hours. This might result in slightly longer queue times than usual".

This is not a "casuals git gud" topic. Please, stop trying to veer the topic into that direction.

Unfortunately this isn't a situation with an easy fix, since if any action is done to support either side it'll just make things worse. I do somewhat agree with you, but I don't see an obvious solution to the problem.

Literally had a Holmester Switch run that was taking way longer than necessary since the healer didn't know how to heal, the Machinist and healer couldn't comprehend stack markers, and they both didn't understand until the second attempt at the final boss that people who are chained need to be broken out. Honestly, if there is a way to make people understand basic markers for mechanics, that would make dungeons so much more easier... but unfortunately boosts exist and some people don't want to put effort into understanding their class or understanding mechanics.
