I'd see Cardia as sort of the Sage Embrace, except better because 20 more potency that you can funnel into the target of your choice, rewards you for doing damage and not tied to a fairy that you snack on periodically.
When you factor in pet scaling, it's quite a bit more than 20 potency. It's actually more like 70-80. Sage effectively has "Whispering Dawn, but 30% stronger" as well for the same reason.
I know this could be considered part of "not tied to a fairy" but I just wanted to drive home the point. It seems like instead of 2 shield healers and 2 pure healers, the real dichotomy here is 2 gimped healers and 2 direct upgrades. We have Diurnal AST, worse Diurnal AST, Sage, and worse Sage.
That's a good point. Wow. It's worse than I thought and I already thought it was rather bad.
I hope something they’re adjusting is Lily’s stats so the potency is reflected more accurately and inline with what we see on SGE’s Cardia heals.
I’m pretty sure SGE is gonna evolve into a “lazer turret” meme just like WHM has the glaremage.
All fairy actions have only about 64% of the potency that is advertised on the tooltip because Eos has lower stats than the Scholar themselves has. Embrace isn't actually 150 healer job potency, it only heals as much as a 96 Potency spell would heal if used by the Scholar. Same with Whispering Dawn, it says it's 100 potency, but in actuality it's 76.8.
SE seems to have outright copied Whispering Dawn onto Sage without accounting for this, so the Sage version is strictly better by a lot. And Cardia's healing is approaching double the amount of healing that Embrace gives if we only look at it in terms of tick for tick. Once you consider that Cardia procs on 1.5 second cast spells and some oGCDs though, and Embrace is once every 3 seconds, even saying that it's double the potency would be an under-exaggeration.
The only possibly justification is that Sage has to target their healing whereas Eos just heals whoever she feels like healing, but I'm sure a lot of people would argue that makes it even better yet. You used to be able to manually Embrace people, and it was removed. It's one of the things Scholars have been asking for the return of for a long time.
I think the increased potency is to account for the expectation that you wont only be casting dps abilities. In a vacuum sure it looks op (assuming "pet potency" isn't done away with) but I think in actual scenarios in game, especially not on the razors edge prog groups, that it SEEMS balanced around that idea. Cardia I mean.
For the whispering dawn equivalent, likely due to the loss of well the random healing aspect of the fairy. Non tank party members are gonna be less "healthy" overall as a general rule due to the fairy not being present. So this oomph to the regen should help scholars that are abandoning ship get used to the fairy not being there anymore. Or so I think.
Also none of sages abilities that do damage are OGCD that we have gotten to see, even the 120s laser is a cast and procs the gcd.
I still, as a sch main, want that "focus this person" button for embrace tho. Definitely jealous of that aspect of it haha.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
