Except Scholar has more direct heals and regens than it does shields? The only shields it has are Adlo and Succor's Galvanize, Critlo's Catalyze, and Seraph's Consolation. Meanwhile the fairy is a permanent regen (that tends to prioritize whoever's closest to it instead of whoever actually needs healing), Whispering Dawn is an off global party-wide regen, Fey Union is a regen directed towards a single target that lasts as long as you still have Fairy Gauge leftover, and Sacred Soil gains a regen trait at level 78 along with its 10% defense buff. Lustrate is an on demand direct heal with no inherent cooldown beyond waiting for more Aetherflow stacks, and Excogitation is a direct heal that activates whenever the target reaches 50% hp or when the timer for it runs out. Indomitability is a direct party-wide heal that can be paired with Recitation to guarantee a critical heal that won't use up an aetherflow charge, and Fey Blessing is another aoe heal that is more limited by it having a cooldown than being attached to the Fairy gauge. Emergency Tactics can even be used to turn Adlo and Succor into direct heals, and Physick is also a direct heal but lol at anyone that uses Physick for anything other than low-level dungeons and "Dear God I have no Aetherflow charges, all my Fairy abilities are on cooldown, and I can't cast an Adlo in time."how was SCH gutted.. exactly?
sch was a barrier healer before, what were they going to add to enhance that? are they receiving a complete rework like smn, nope, but so what? I have not had anyone able to point out how they were "so broken". Most of the people complaining are the same people who did so when SCH lost many of teh damage abilities that allowed people to essentially queue faster because they wanted to dps instead of heal, well, now you have SGE for that.
we havent even PLAYED it yet.. so how a group is losing its collective minds over something thats apparently been destroyed when they have lost nothing is amazing.
Instead of addressing stuff like Dissipation locking you out of all your Fairy abilities while only buffing your healing spells and not your Aetherflow abilities, and Summon Seraph locking you out of Fey Blessing and Fey Union while also having a 5 second animation lock before it can even execute anything, they gave Scholars a combat peloton and called it a day. That's not even getting into the Fairy ghosting abilities and being unable to make Eos prioritize one target instead of Embracing every player that gets a minor scratch.
So yeah, I can understand why Scholars are miffed, and rightfully so.
SCH used to be able to pull off some insane play, and for some reason SE seems committed to punish that for some reason.

What archetype? Regen vs Shields? Because Sage (a "shield" healer) has more Regens in it's kit than actual Shields.People have complained for 2 expansions that a new healer wasn't added.
So they added one. And they had to make them fit within the archetypes.
Sure, SCH needs work, and it not getting any love is upsetting, but to just.. ask for no new jobs when that is a major draw to expansions is just silly...
I know SCH only has 2 Shields (and 1 pet shield) but that just shows the whole Regen / Shield dichtotomy is bullsh!t.
It has no basis in the actual gameplay.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

This is a good point. Right now you can play scholar as a pure healer other than when Seraph is out and I personally do because using shields means spending a GCD on something other than damage.
Since we were told Scholar didn't really need any changes, it means these "shield healers" can continue to be played as pure healers if we prefer.
Scholars were fun back in the day.So by now most of us have watched the trailer and the changes being made. I have a few SCH friends, my GF included, who are completely gutted by the SCH changes. So. I'm here to say this to Square. If such dire changes are required to implement NEW classes into the game (Looking at you Sage). We don't ALWAYS NEED new classes for expansions. The same amount of people will play for the content. But if you're having forcefully change classes to be put into two pools. Don't make new classes of that type. Perhaps make supportive DPS classes to match the needs of whatever they are supporting. Emphasize RDM to maybe support heal more if the need arises. Etc. Taking away core aspects of the current healers, splitting them into two separate groups, then more or less gutting or taking away what makes them unique in themselves though just to make a new fancy class seems a bit over the top. Will people still play SCH? I'm sure. But going forward. We don't NEED new classes to enjoy things. It's not a make or break. Keep that in mind please.

Or it's entirely possible that some of the kit changed and they just didn't talk about it? Who knows...This is a good point. Right now you can play scholar as a pure healer other than when Seraph is out and I personally do because using shields means spending a GCD on something other than damage.

But they sell expacs.
They've commented many times on how shiny new jobs generate a lot of excitement and help boost sales.
Need or not, making new jobs is a good financial investment and we should expect them to keep making more for as long as they can.
Obsession with balancing kills every MMO. People just need to play what they like and what is fun to them, no matter the balancing, how hard or how easy, really. And SE should know better than ever focusing into balancing over identity and individual class actions customization. Game is already too streamlined in such aspects and way too easy as is. Developers should really stop caring for casual players and actually make the combat in the game way more complex and harder, respecting the players intelligence and not treating everyone as kids and/or adolescents. I really wish FFXIV was more "adult focused" gameplay and combat wise (not being afraid to be a true hardcore MMO with ever more complex combat mechanics and only getting harder and harder. Currently, almost everything outside extremes and savages is just way, way, way, too easy, and an MMO shouldn't be like that, quite the opposite).

I have no idea why people aren't complaining about WHM. It looks like Endwalker is going to be more Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare Glare.......such engaging gameplay, wow. How fun.yeah I get that it didnt get a whole closet full of cool new spells.. but.. why would it? we have no clue what other QoL adjustments may have been made since they didnt address ALL the changes.
why arent people saying how WHM was so hard done by? I lost a spell (which I never ever used anyway) and gained some other meh thing, where are the dirges for death of WHM?
no, I dont think WHM is dying now am I giving it up. it just hilarious that people are wailing over something that I havent seen as in a horrible place. (teh SCH mains I know arent crying over their cereal this morning from what I know)
