It's probably to fill out that long gap between Bahamut and Phoenix.SMN finally got the proper aesthetics for its first three egi it deserves. Carbuncle is out but fills the same role as a minion while you channel through your body the very powers of the egi.
I am super stoked but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about how it could be keeping it's overly long rotation. In any case, hopefully I get back into it as it was my main job since I started playing and stormblood but I completely left it behind this expansion.

Summoner summoning alone already has me excited!
though I am concerned about how long my opener is going to be with 3 more egis to juggle LOL

I'm pleased with the changes as well.
It looks to me that the summoning of the egis is in the gap between Bahamut and Firebird Trance. Without seeing the action/cast bars it is hard to see but the new rotation appears like it will reduce the use of the various Ruins as fill in-between cool downs. In any event the changes interest me and on the surface seem better thought out than the last time they made a major change to the SMN rotation.
Scholar wasn't encouraging.

I'm glad Red Mage got something a little flashier. Most of its spells have been pretty basic visually and even Verflare and Verholy always lacked impact (no pun intended) to me.
PLD's new combo that's seemingly enabled after using Confiteor also gave it a much needed boost in the flashiness department.

He sure got a lot flashier.
But sword on sword on sword felt kinda bland when it comes to variations for all those skills.
Like they just copy+pasted the swords but in different positions and sizes to try and make it feel different.
Can't agree with u, the combo really where evolving from one skill to other, with really was great.
