99% true. I met some neat people there that didn't immediately want to jump me but I have received some tells that ranged from horribly desperate to flat out weird.

Can't control other people unfortunately. All you can do is report. If you go there and get hit on by someone and don't want it...just report and leave. Or just leave.

In my experience, it can be pretty difficult to find people to role-play with in this game who aren't just looking to play out relationships and little else. It's more of a problem over on the North American servers, I've found - so you might have more luck over on Omega which is the unofficial European RP server.

Generally speaking, though, even the professed 'serious' role-players on Balmung who swore up and down that they just wanted to get out into the game world and fight bandits and monsters would suddenly turn around and try to nudge my character towards sleeping with them. It was pretty surreal.

Worse yet, a lot of the same individuals would then stop interaction altogether - because, as it turned out, the pursuit of romance/ERP ended up being their primary motivator after all.

I've recently come back to the game after a 6-ish year hiatus and Lockdown means I'm really wanting to rp a bit in this game. Problem is, we've all heard the horror tails that is the RP scene on this game and I wanted to know, is there anywhere that does RP that isn't filled with smuttery? I just wanna do slice of life scenes and casual, fun RP without it going the way of Balmung Limsa Lominsa. Currently on Tonberry atm, but I don't mind changing servers and actually plan to once the Oceana servers open.

I'm on Atomos, feel free to hop on over and give me a chat. I haven't RPed in XIV before so don't really have much of a framework to go on, but I do enjoy it, am happily married IRL and have a strict rule of only SFW, NO ERP, or romantic relationship RP. the prevalence of erp is overstated, I played on balmung from launch until 2 weeks ago, the server "known" for getting "random erp tells at any time" and only ever got a suspicious tell once (and not even sure if they were trying something or just being dumb because I had no clothes on after a class swap). People in duty finders would bring it up all the time but my other friends in balmung had no experience with it happening either.

You can always detail what your looking for in party finder, but I wouldn't worry about that too much.

There is a lot of SFW RP. People like to throw ERP out there all the time like that's the defacto - and it is there, I'm not going to pretend it's not. But a lot of people RP and never go down that road. I have a couple of RP characters on Balmung that I play with friends and have for years, and we've never done any ERP or even considered it.

Personally I don’t really roleplay, but I have friends who do. I sometimes join in and it’s pretty tame (well, they roleplay and I’m just me tbh).

I’d say the places I meet people is the aether Crystal in Gridania. Limsa works, but Gridania usually feels more…I dunno… safe?

You could just /say around the Gridania what your looking for and probably find something. Just as others said be clear what your looking for and not interested in from the start.

Stop pretending erp on balmung doesn’t exist or is over stated. Maybe you’re just numb to it or so focused on your own rp that you miss it. But I have walked through thal, heading from doing blue mage things to a summoning bell. Then from there, On my way to bald, just before I get there, I see it in say.
This really caught my attention because it wasn’t the usual back alley s worker stuff I’ve run into. Or someone bragging how they have 2 cat girls and looking to share. (Also just casually said ad if normalcy). But what I saw was borderline beastiality.
I don’t care what you all do. Though I do think you all should take a lot of it to party chat. Make your own fc’s for it and chat there. Link shells. What ever. But let’s not pretend some screwed up stuff doesn’t exist because it puts a dark spot on something you love

Yes, there is still plenty of SFW RP. For my part: I don't see anyone getting nasty in the streets on Mateus.
