Question about Eastern Roegadyn?

I don't RP or anything so this didn't even really warrant a thread, but it's been nagging me so here we are...

I recently used my one free Fantasia to change my female Raen Au Ra alt, who I'd given a decidedly Eastern sounding name, into a Roegadyn because I didn't want to change her name, and since Roes are one of races we see most of in that part of the world, it made sense... except I made her a Sea Wolf due to their choice of green skin (I wanted to preserve her look as best I could), only to then notice that 99% of the ones in the East (I checked the Ruby Sea area and Kugane) seem to be Hellsguard. Or, well, "Hellsguard", since I suspect they picked that clan because they had more "human" skin tones of the two?

Nevertheless, I'm wondering if I messed up, or whether it's not unreasonable to think that a Sea Wolf-esque skin tone might pop up even in the East? She doesn't have the characteristic Hellsguard nose stripe, but then neither does Gosetsu, so...???

Gosetsu is not a Hellguard. None of the Roe in the East are Hellsguard or Sea Wolf, they are a clan of their own. I am trying to find the info in the lore book that states Gosetsu's background but I haven't been able to.

All I know is it states that about 700 years ago there was a massive exodus from their homeland in the north to flee a tyrannical ruler, the Roe came to LL and ended up becoming the sea wolves. Another group went to the mountains and became hellsguard. Other Roe tribes spread across the 3 continents and became other tribes but since they are non playable, there is not much more than that. But that can describe how Gosetsu does not have the traits of either tribe as well as why it doesn't matter all too much about your affiliation either unless you are trying to be incredibly lore strict. They likely defaulted to hellsguard because it was as close as they could get to the eastern Roe tribes without creating a whole new version of Roe, which would cause an uproar by the community.

I wish we got Gosetsu clan as a playable clan...
Maybe one day in the future we will get new clans to the existing races...

The furthest east prominent Roegadyn we meet aren't actually from Othard; it would be Misija, from Bozja. Who's a Hellsguard in the same way Ysayle is a Duskwight, probably; she's not one culturally or ancestrally, but that's the model they use.

According to his game data, Gosetsu uses Hellsguard with custom face.

But I wouldn't worry about that at all for your character. Sea Wolves wander the seas after all, and they are really out of place nowhere. It's not like you're writing that she has an entire clan in the Far East, right? It could be as simple as her parents gave up pirating upon reaching Othard or Hingashi, and she was raised Far Eastern. Or she was found orphaned and raised by Far East Hyur or Hellsguard. There's tons of ways to make Far Eastern Sea Wolf work, same way any oddball lineage works. Hell, I've got a friend that's half German, half Japanese. She looks far more Asian than German, and has a Japanese first name with a German surname.

People move around and fall in love with whoever, and there's always exceptions to the rule with what people look like/talk like/act like against where they are from.

Wait Misija is (technically) a Hellsguard? Between her being pale as hell and not having the nose stripe I could've sworn... But yeah, this does bring to mind the whole "are Ishgardians Wildwood or Duskwight Elezen" debacle lmao

That's the thing though lol I'm not dead set on her being a Sea Wolf, it's just she's one from a technical POV because they had the skin tone I wanted, in much the same way various NPCs are one or the other and it's never commented on (or even distinguishable without datamining). My (skeleton of a) backstory for her, back when she was a Raen, was simply that she was born and grew up in a remote mountain village

I believe that Gosetsu is a big muscular Hyur and not actually a Roegadyn, but instead of having to custom build a body for him, it was easier to use the Roegadyn body.

No, he's canonically an Eastern Roegadyn - they're an acknowledged race designed by the devs, and discussed in the official lorebook.
