I for one don't want it to change. I think more customization options is a good thing and those options should not be taken away. "too popular" or not.

It isn't an option for those on console and I expect console players to only go up in numbers as PS5's become easier to get and the inevitable xbox version next year. Even taking the console argument away, SE has historically done a great job making addons not feel necessary to make good progress. But the more people who use them, the more people expect others to use them and it becomes a gatekeeping issue to progress in high end content. I know it for a fact, I've seen it in other games and it's already becoming a problem that will only grow. Don't use damage meters? No invite. Don't use addons to automark things? No invite. It's time to put the foot down.
It is a matter of opinion. I miss some visual enhancements i had in WoW via addons like 3D portraits etc. It is not possible in FF14, unfortunately.
There is no chance that other players can tell whether you use some specific addons or not. So gatekeeping in high end content cannot occur here. But the more people who use them, the more people expect others to use them and it becomes a gatekeeping issue to progress in high end content. We will see when I get there, and I will. One of the big appeals to me when starting this game 4 months ago was not having to worry about third party addons and console play. It was like a breath of fresh air. Only to realize those things are still an issue apparently, even though they officially aren't as long as we *wink wink nudge nudge* But the flaunting of it by some streamers, particularly high end raid streamers that have come from WoW is disturbing. I just wish they would take a hard stance one way or another and be done with it and I feel all the recent flaunting if going to bring it to a head that it hasn't in the past.It is a matter of opinion. I wish also that SE had a hard stance here. But then say good bye to NSFW-mods, to bard player mods etc. It would affect literary every modification the players use even the harmless ones. Because there is no chance to find out whether a modification is dangerous or not.We will see when I get there, and I will. And seriously, i see still no WoWification here. And what streamers do i simply don't care.
Cheers

Out of curiosity. A lot of Statics and FC's require members to use Discord Chat for high end content. Do you personally want SE to ban people using Discord as well since its a "3rd party tool" that can cause Gatekeeping? But the more people who use them, the more people expect others to use them and it becomes a gatekeeping issue to progress in high end content. I know it for a fact, I've seen it in other games and it's already becoming a problem that will only grow. It's time to put the foot down.
There's also the option of SE looking at 3rd party tools, examining why ppl are using it, and then seeing if there's a way they can just integrate it into the game.
I strongly suspect that a lot of the QoL adjustments we've gotten in game, especially for crafters and gatherers, were integrated because of the existence of some of the 3rd party tools.
You said it happens in other games, but I have yet to see it here, and this isn't 'the sky is falling' thing happening. Sure, get out in front of it; however, there is already an avenue to combat this. Like the damage thing - if someone is giving you a hard time over your DPS, it's harrassment. Report them, they actually do take action on this. If you aren't running a modification that's already against the ToS (literally, all of them) and someone is giving you a hard time because of that fact, report them.It isn't an option for those on console and I expect console players to only go up in numbers as PS5's become easier to get and the inevitable xbox version next year. What does this mod actually do that gives you an advantage?
What does this mod do that could lead to something like this:
I've only skimmed some of the 12 pages in this thread, so forgive me if this was answered. But the more people who use them, the more people expect others to use them and it becomes a gatekeeping issue to progress in high end content. Some UI mods are distributed through XIVlauncher, which also gives players access to a number of other features that give clear advantages. Some examples:
- Allows you to see player hitbox
- Can automatically find and relay hunt mobs
- Condenses combos to one button
- Allows macros to be daisy-chained
- Allows mouseover targeting without macro delay
- Gives player realtime information about mobs in PoTD
- Shows different damage types visually (magic/physical))
