Stop the WoWificaton (ui mods)

Reading through 14 pages of this thread makes me realize that there is an amazing lack of experience with addons. I developed addons for WoW and ESO way back, and nothing about them would give any clear advantage to FFXIV's base besides a QoL. Cactbot makes me laugh, just because SE does a phenomenal job telegraphing all the things DBM does for WoW. Been in one of those "Cactbot mandatory" statics. Never had it myself, and never advertised that I didn't. Was never called out on it just because you really get no advantage over someone just paying attention.

Funny story I have about Cactbot: I had someone in a group who really wanted to use it, and we begrudgingly let him put his bot in the Discord VC. It was so disruptive and distracting (literally talking over player calls), that we had a unanimous vote to ban it.

But, yeah, the only way to stop these are with invasive software, which other posters have said. It opens a lot of other security risks, and not sure SE wants to bother with it. When these mods actually break the game in a way that ruins the experience of another player, SE takes action. Parsers and the like don't even begin to encroach on that level of abuse, however.

All addons regardless of how you decide to classify them are used in violation of the ToS. You can spin it however you like. That is the absolute fact.

How can SE know people are running addons without:

A) User speaking about using the addon in chat.
B) Running a scanner, which is a questionable move.
C) The addon gives a clear advantage, thus being detectable by other players and actions in the game. For instance: parser just reads game data, so it does not give any advantage in the moment to the player. It cannot be used to leverage a win over another player who is not using it. This, versus a script that automates your character performance, like how bots operate.

Repeating it clearly in a little list just so I am not misinterpreted again. Love and light.

People stream daily on twitch and youtube with these addons. All they have to do is tune in and they will see them. I am sure they are already 100% aware as they have banned people as a result. Keep using your addons. I hope you get the ban you deserve.

If the way they're "finding" these people is through streams it's not going to scare the rest because SE wont have a way to track who uses the addons unless they start scanning peoples computers, which they already said they'd never do. So no, no one is going to get scared into getting rid of addons.

Anyway, still not answering my post about what this would look like for the other 99.99% of players. You seem a bit scuffed about all this, maybe drink some water and get back to me when you want to discuss reasonable solutions to how SE can address 3rd party software in a way that satisfies the issues I listed, and does not leave us with "The player had to admit to it in game chat and the program gave clear and measurable advantage".
