My issue is that them cracking down on UI mods [which I honestly don't give a dang if people use, I don't raid so I have no dog in that race.] they would crack down on texture mods and that is one game I do have skin in.

See post#7.
Also, I made this thread because I am upset at the flaunting of it nonchalantly by streamers right now. Other games have had security protocols like "Warden" to prevent this sort of things for years. It is remarkable to me that the are okay with third party software literally modifying their code. These aren't some LUA interface files. These are no different to me than cheats or trainers for other games.
Don't fall for the troll people....
What is with this crusade with the whole holier-than-thou attitude when it comes things that don't affect you personally? These are client-sided things-- As long as no one is being hurt, or actively harming the game (They're not; Go look at people buying actual gil). What's the big issue?
These HUD/UI adjustments can give someone with disabilities better/easier accessibility with the game. Are you going to go on your mortal high horse to ban all these players keeping to themselves? Considering FF14 still has ways to go with better accessibility....
Oi oi oi....people on these forums are nuts. xD
Please go outside and touch some grass...or something. It's clear you need to be banned off the internet for a week.
Edit: Dammit fell for the bait. OH WELL, you win this one dude.

Which we really don't know that. I don't like mods either, but I know plenty of people who use miste mods for the way their character looks. That's their business to me.
Not everyone with a different take than you is a troll. Shocking, I know. Calling people a troll if often the sign of an actual troll, when they know they are wrong.
It's almost a moot point anyway. It's only a matter of time before it snowballs out of control and they have to act, when people can't get groups for savage or maybe even less without addons and it starts effecting console copies of the game. I will concede that in a vaccum, there is nothing wrong with the addons themselves. The core issue is the gatekeeping that it will cause and likely already has.
It is a matter of opinion. I miss some visual enhancements i had in WoW via addons like 3D portraits etc. It is not possible in FF14, unfortunately.
There is no chance that other players can tell whether you use some specific addons or not. So gatekeeping in high end content cannot occur here. But the more people who use them, the more people expect others to use them and it becomes a gatekeeping issue to progress in high end content. I know it for a fact, I've seen it in other games and it's already becoming a problem that will only grow. Don't use damage meters? No invite. Don't use addons to automark things? No invite. It's time to put the foot down.
Cheers
We will see when I get there, and I will. One of the big appeals to me when starting this game 4 months ago was not having to worry about third party addons and console play. It was like a breath of fresh air. Only to realize those things are still an issue apparently, even though they officially aren't as long as we *wink wink nudge nudge* But the flaunting of it by some streamers, particularly high end raid streamers that have come from WoW is disturbing. I just wish they would take a hard stance one way or another and be done with it and I feel all the recent flaunting if going to bring it to a head that it hasn't in the past.It is a matter of opinion. I'm a console player and tbh, I don't watch too many streamers of this game live.
Just wanted to chime in that there is precedent for them taking action based on things they saw ppl doing on streams. There was a streamer that was punished for their behavior towards another player on their stream, not necessarily in game. And they made changes to how waymarks work because they saw how PC ppl were changing them mid fight on streams.
personally, I left WoW for many reasons, I have little desire to use something that reminds me of it. If people miss it THAT much that they have to change their UI to reflect it, I feel just pity for them....
if it doesnt affect gameplay, not really sure how it would be an advantage for them. if automates anything, ban the lot. if you dont want to play and just automate, then you dont need to play and your character spot can be used by someone who wants to actually play the game, not bot it. thats the only reason I see to be concerned.
