So there's no way to configure log filter announcements? All or nothing?

I played around with turning "system messages" on/off in general log filter settings, and as expected it either hides or shows everything.

Where are the advertised "amazing customisation options"?

Each system message should be their own thing.
    Leave area: off.
    Enter new area: on.
    Show recommendations gained: on.
    Show item searches: off.

Why do we have to get spammed by EVERY system message, when we only want to see a few chosen ones? Why can't a billion dollar company even get the basics right... sigh

Well if this game didn't have so much to improve on, I wouldn't have to suggest this much, would I...?

What specific system messages are you seeing that should be ignored, specifically?

Item searches are deliberate, for example. Why would you need them if you never invoke /isearch in the first place?
Show recommendations have their own 'don't show me this' button in character configuration, as do those related to available achievements.
You can turn of a lot by going through the character configuration panels. No problem.

And where, oh where, did you read or hear about 'amazing customization options' for system messages in the general chat channel?

I'm not on the same train as OP; the spammy system messages are but a minor inconvenience for me, and I'm not looking into leveraging any "false advertising" angles.

But, for me, I'd shut off:

    - Triple Triad is / isn't allowed in this area
    - You've entered / left a sanctuary (this one's doubly spammy since there's an icon that indicates sanctuary)
    - There's X number of new players in the party so X bonus to whatever Y and Z currency (big, center-screen message does the job)
    - You've entered a FATE area, you need to sync your level in order to participate (again, big center-screen message with the same indication)

    Easier solution to OP's problem:

Create a 4th Log filter and place everything in that log except what you'd like to see in the General Channel and then turn them off in the General Channel. Out of site, out of mind.

Literally what I do. Just make extra tabs and organize it.

So, I can filter out individual system messages by setting proper filters in a new tab? I'll have to check that out again when I log into the game. I swear I checked that out already, and I found I could filter system messages in their entirety, or not at all. I didn't realize you could pick individual messages such as the TT spam, etc., that I mentioned before.

    Thanks for the tip!

    (...a few minutes later...)

Nah, guys, this is what OP is talking about. There's a check there for system messages. You either take them all, or you take none of them. There is no, "I want to filter out Triple Triad and Sactuary spam, but keep everything else.")

I want to re-iterate that I don't honestly care, either way, that this can or cannot be done. That's OP's thing. I'm just saying that if such a thing were possible to do, I'd filter out a couple different spammy system messages.

And there is no obvious way to do that. All or nothing. Creating a new tab and editing filters doesn't get to the core of what OP is asking; there are no filters for individual system messages.

I’d like this feature. Some you want, some you don’t.

While on the topic of all or nothing, forgot to add:

Why can't we see only SOME battle effects?

Sure, it says so; show all, limited, or none.
But it doesn't work like one would assume.

You'd think the middle setting just turns effects down like 50% but it actually:
    A) turns all on
    B) turns all effects off except aura/aoe/bubbles etc. healer effects/aoe targeting.
    C) turns all off.

Especially after trying dancer now and liking the combat flow of it, I'd like to tune down the visuals because the effect spam is just cancer.
Total flash grenades swish swoosh kaboom giving me a headache and I'm sure not the only one.
But using B turns EVERYTHING off and it looks stupid when you turn into a mime or looking like a crazy person flailing and kicking around without any effects.
And C does the same, all off...

Why is there no real middle option that actually lowers the battle effect volume/strength/fidelity/thickness/opacity or whatever you want to call it, for all skills and actions 50% ?

I dunno... There's only so much I'd try to change visually before I would ask myself "If this bothers me so much do I even like this game?"
