I'm guessing the previous instance was full, so when you queued it created a new instance and you just happened to be the only one there for the moment. Since Leap of Faith is not group-dependent content, there is no reason for it to make players wait for a "full party" or anything. If there's a spot, you go in. I bet if you'd waited around a bit more people would enter, but I dunno, this has never happened to me.
I once had this happen to me twice in a row.
It was kinda spooky, but also neat. Since I'm so small crowds can make this Gate rather... difficult.
I prefer getting it by myself. The sea of people jumping around is nauseating.
I would largely prefer à solo instance, less lagg and less idiots to mock you when you fall.
