You can just as well do it with melee, the problem is not what type of damage, it's the amount of damage that can be dealt during her long charge up time for AF. Nerfing a particular type of damage does not solve it, it's the mechanism/behavior that need to be adjusted.

The thing is its alot easier for BLM to do that damage with a quick retarget after she teleports, a melee dd needs to move and re-target, that few seconds extra could be the differance between killing her and getting hit for 9999. Also the community hates DDs getting hit by AoEs, because healers never want to heal DDs.

This kind of remind me of AV (Absolute Virtue) in FFXI. DRK zerg could do the same just by how it went into different phase and was not doing anything during that time. Its the same now for Garuda, so I see a nerf incoming for 1.22a.

First off gratz on this its a fun proof of concept for sure.

Now I had a theory this was possible because with just 3xBlms we burn her down to 30% before AF. Although I figured they have countermeasures in place, and I think having her skip to AF at a certain HP was put in place for this reason.

Oddly enough my LS is also Legacy (of Excalibur) we tried this and we seemed to do too much dmg to fast. We adjusted to slow it down at the start but then out had to much HP and we couldn't get it down fast enough. In the end we went back to the regular fight start which seemed easier. All and all I like this fight alot and enjoy going through the phases, although the biggest things in this fight is that everyone in the party needs to do their part.

Although one more thing why did someone mention the Blms needed about 400 Int? I only have 320int & 540Atk Mag. without food yet dps is high something I missed?

We were actually just took an off day yesterday after I made that video and witnessed most linkshells wipe trying to do BLM burn. It was pretty funny actually. So no, not every blm can do it. And it's not just spamming thunder spells thats killing it. Tank DPS, Brd DPS, and Whm DPS help out in that fight also... as you realize you are a fraction of a second away from a full wipe. So if you have Blms getting a few resists, then you will wipe also.

I don't think "phase lock" if that's even what the term it should be called is a glitch. It's not really locked into a phase... She just uses her AF after her plumes are dead. S-E gives a benefit to those who can kill her faster to skip the first dust pools phase and even the annoying phase where she just teleports around and summons plumes... You can go straight from Astral Flow to the Chirada/Suprana adds. So it seems like it was part of they're plan to make it almost easier or have less chance to screw up if you killed her faster. We just took that and bypassed AF entirely.

I'm at 386 INT wearing gimp AF pants (sorc pants drop has been lame for me), and Lux is at 389. Swinds parsed lower than normal in that fight because he was on the phone. As stated by Miko 'Neversleeps' you don't need high INT. Although I did mention to people about timing convert with BV for the HP boost, we actually never even did that. The key is not getting resists and timing when to go all out and rest for mp. If we time the BV + convert better so we don't waste MP during the convert we can probably do this fight without worry... Sometimes cutting it close at the end with the elixer and last round of nukes.



Melee burn would be possible, but repositioning to the center or off center to a pillar I think would be needed. I have a fully capped Str/Int MNK so I would love to try this out also as my damage parse on Garuda on MNK is also pretty high. Would probably need BV Paeon though. and hundred fists with str potion at her Plume spam stage before AF or potentially lowering INT where possible and increasing +attack through the entire build to maximize auto attack damage... We're not just a bunch of mage noobs that some seem to allude to heh..

Regarding some of the "this takes no skill" responses, like others have said, this is not that easily performed. I was part of Miko's group and you indeed don't need triple melds, but just a really good spell rotation and timing. Triple melds or whatever certain make this easier, but it is by no means necessary. Also, if people REALLY wanted to push DPS w/o strong melds, you could just all sport those new sanction cudgels and pray you don't die. It's not rocket science, but it's not like they just randomly mashed buttons and won because Garuda gave up after /checking their gear.

People can think what they want about this being an exploit or whatever; this is everyone's personal choice. However, I think there is something tremendously rewarding about posting a video to a forum and having like a huge chunk of the endgame population on both sides of the world immediately try to copy you within 24 hours. Beyond this, this even got an immediate response from YoshiP (and during Golden Week). That's pretty high praise, even if it's indirect. I'm in a "rival" LS on the same server as Legacy, and I really have no reason to overtly praise them, but seriously guys just give a bit of credit where it's due.
