Curious to what the percentage is of people thinking they have a solution to the housing system, only for it to be as terribly flawed as what we currently have and are getting.

I think it must be in their interest to be short of housing, as people have been maintaining their subscriptions for years, you have to sub every 44 days minimum.
Sometimes I think Yoshi-P is kidding us when he says he hopes to make the housing zones "alive", everyone knows they are ghost towns, with pnj and retainers that don't move. Like an episode of Twilight Zone.
But on the other hand, it's also because of the house sellers that it's become like this, it's a ridiculous solution it must be said, for people without houses.

Yeah, I'm less for all these oddball ideas to stop the house reselling markets. Because let's face it, no matter what they implement, housing resellers are going to find a workaround. They did so with placard timers. They'll figure it out with a lotto system. So long as housing remains a finite resource, there will be a black market and resellers will profit from it.I think it must be in their interest to be short of housing, as people have been maintaining their subscriptions for years, you have to sub every 44 days minimum.

The best way to end it is provide ample housing, enough that anyone can just walk up and buy a house. There'll still be a black market for what players consider 'premium' plots (LB 11/41 for example, or any large plot) probably, but for the average player just wanting to have a place bigger than an apartment box to decorate, this won't be a thing anymore. Even just providing apartment upgrades that allow for either larger room space or multi-levels would help alleviate current conditions immensely. (Also SE needs to increase the number of apartments in general.)

Would outbid max possible amount... if really want something...

A bidding system would be the same as other players choosing who may and may not buy a house, with those rich enough able to guarantee a purchase by others of their choosing.
Why would anyone do such a thing, you ask?
If I had enough gil, I would certainly surround myself with friends and family, or those who owe me a great deal...
Or I could simply deny someone I don't like from getting a home.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. You'd have realties introduced into the game. Or worse, multiple HMAs.

This system is already in place unofficially, and that doesn't happen. There are people who buy and sell FCs with housing attached to them. All this would change is make that money go into the void rather than the pockets of another player, thereby being the gil sink we need.A bidding system would be the same as other players choosing who may and may not buy a house, with those rich enough able to guarantee a purchase by others of their choosing.

That's an FC problem, and they still have to actually win the camp and click contest.
Now imagine if those people who have been buying and selling plots using "alternative means" were told that now only the richest of players can get a house...
You see where I'm going with this?
Why are you trying to cater to the wealthy who have made their wealth through selling FC houses by making it easier to buy FC houses to sell for more money...?
I already see more holes in this than a Trump lawyer's defense argument.

Because its already happening, and I doubt this will make it worse. And this has the benefit of being a gil sink. So our choices are "shitty situation that resolves itself as gil gets removed from the system" or "shitty situation plus runaway inflation that makes it even shittier".
And most of these people don't make their money selling FC houses. Most of the rich people I know have made it selling stuff to raiders. Buying FC houses is something for them to do with their mountains of gil. This way, rather than passing that gil to each other, it gets removed from the system. Why do you not understand or at least acknowledge this difference?
Also, they will not be selling to each other if just buying the house costs the market value. If I know someone is willing to pay 50M for a house, and I can get it for 3M, then I'll go on a click frenzy to make 47M. If bidding happens, and someone is willing to pay 50M for that house, then if I want it I have to pay 50M for it. Its useless for resale because its market value is what I paid for it.
