Can't Access FFV Event, NPCs Missing

So, the last time Nocturn for Heroes happened, I started it, but couldn't finish the last part of the quest line. "The Man in Black" is in my Journal under Completed quests, listing the parts I was able to do, but it is not in current quests.

Now that the event is back, I can't access the event NPCs. Neither the starting NPC in Ul'Dah, nor the next one I need (Noctus in New Gridania, quest is "Messenger of the Winds") will appear for me. I know I am in the right place because both sites are surrounded by other players participating in the event. I know it's not loading issues because I have waited at those sites for several minutes. I have a hot key for selecting NPCs in a crowd. They are simply not there.

I will gladly repeat the parts I already did if I can finish this time, but I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(If you're wondering why I couldn't finish last time, yes, I was a sprout, no, I didn't know what a stack marker or iLevel were; it was the end of the last day, and by the time I figured it out, the event had timed out.)

have you completed in the dark of the night yet? or you need to figure out where in your quest you stopped at and then continue on from there..i just helped someone figure out how to get back into the event. they went from where they finished and when to the next npc on that part of the quest.

I definitely finished "in the dark of night;" I got the pants to prove it...

After reading your response, I finally managed to retrace my steps using a video guide. I just now found Noctis. I think what may have happened is that it set me at the beginning of Messenger of the Winds, but I was a few steps into that part, so I was checking the place I was at, and am now about to redo the first part of the quest.
