Lohgrif's true name throws a wrench into the whole "named after Greek Gods" thing. Though perhaps the Japanese don't differentiate between the Gods and the Titans. Regardless, there's a whole lot more options on the table than just the Greek Gods.

Sure its not a god but its totally greek still.

Gaea or Gaia is still Greek in origin.

Gaia isn't a Goddess. She's a Titan, the progenitor race of the Gods.

I would argue that you are nitpicking.

" Gaia was the mother of all: the heavenly gods, the Titans and the Giants were born from her union with Uranus (the sky), while the sea-gods were born from her union with Pontus (the sea). The Greek word "γαῖα" (transliterated as gaia or gaea) is a collateral form of "γῆ" meaning Earth. Her equivalent in the Roman pantheon was named Gaea (Terra in more ancient documents). This is alluded to in Final Fantasy IX with the existence of Gaia's twin world."

that sounds like a god of sorts to me personally.

The Titans were Gods (and Godesses). Not Olympian Gods, but Gods nonetheless.

Honestly I never put much stock in the greek god angle. Hades was Emet-Selch's name not as a reference to greek mythology directly, but because Hades is a FF summon/super boss and they always go for one of those for expansion closers. Ultima Weapon, Knights of the Round with Thordan, Shinryu.... it was less a reference to greek mythology and more a reference to past FF games that fit the character.

That's how I took it as well. Not necessarily that they were patterned off the Greek pantheon, but that it was part of how Final Fantasy games pull from mythology constantly for their references.
