Down for the count is awful.
Anything that guarantees to take control of your character from you is bad game design in my opinion.

Seriously...
This is what makes you give up on the story?
I am not a big fan of it either, in some cases it makes sense but there's some where I think it was silly ( especially a certain old dude in Shadowbringers ).
But to just quit the story altogether seems like a pretty severe overreaction.

I agree with you. If I'm going to fail one way or another, then don't even give me a chance to fight. Just pass a cutscene and save my time.

Somehow I am dissapointed it wasn't meant for the first boss of Dusk Vigil... that one can get deleted.
And for cutscene bear in mind your character does not have a fixed job so the least they can do is do battle pose and then whatever. Some scenes are just awkward if you are healer, holding book etc. We do not get the fun way of fighting in cutscenes.
Still down for the count is a love/hate for me. Some work and some are needless (in Zen case, i didn't mind honestly)

It's bad story telling in games if you win in a fight only to loose in the following CS in my opinion. I really like these unwinnable battles for immersion.

Maybe I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but isn't Down for the Count just a stun with a different animation to indicate a different thing happening?

I'd rather have an unwinnable fight, that to lose in a cutscene. Down For The Count at least gives you the illusion you have a chance (even if you don't), which works better for immersion.

Yes, i hate it too. You fight a guy 10 minutes long and then he snips with his fingers an you lose. Maaaaaan .....
Cheers

We're playing an anime, so at one point we Have to be beat up so we can have a training montage going,or something similar!
It's part of the story, not you effing up, so don't take it personal?
Goodluck msqing, or not. Goodluck either way ^^
