I been trying melee dps these days, and noticed that samurai, different from dragoon and monk, don't have positional hint in description of skill, some say they do have POS, some say it doesn't. PLS help this humble noob (me) understand!![]()

SAM is the only melee DPS that does not have extra initial potency in positionals, but it only has two that it needs to hit. Instead it unlocks a trait where it gains its gauge - Kenki, from hitting Gekko (back) and Kasha (side).
If you've just unlocked it and you're at around 50-ish, then don't worry about it until you unlock the trait. The difference positionals make on SAM is pretty slim, so if you don't want to hit them, then you don't really have to.
Your positionals on Gekko and Kasha are each worth 64+ potency, which is quite high as far as positionals, other than (Leaden Fist) Bootshine are concerned. But, it's just those two.
The less obvious disadvantage is that SAM, unlike those with normal, direct positional bonuses, will never have a decent reason not to bother with a positional; whereas others' bonuses might be overkill anyways, effectively leaving you free to finish off an enemy from wherever, SAM will want to get that extra Kenki regardless.
Samurai gains Kenki by hitting positionals. Kenki is used to expend oGCD abilities that do a pretty nice potency or increase the attack of your weaponskill. I think it was roughly equivalent to 70 potency for 5 kenki overtime? So missing a positional is roughly around ~70 potency worth of damage.
Please stop encouraging people not to do positionals. So sick of people telling melee jobs that they aren't important. You lose out on free extra damage and can have your rotation messed up by ignoring them and choosing not to play your job correctly.
Spamming Shintens are always addictive so you need to do the postionals anyway.
Even you're not getting the trait yet, you still should to do the right positionals.
Think of it as practice.
